Just ordered refurbed one for $50 mainly for showing photos on TV. It's not the "live" version so no streaming, just play from portable hard drive or USB drive. It plays videos and FLAC music files too and has an optical out for plug into external DAC. Anyone try this? Audio results?

It plays flac files fine, but you can only browse by folder structure, not by tags.

I use it for video and pictures. It plays all kinds of formats uncluding 720p mkv, have not had yet a video format or audio synching issues. Pictures browsing is also great, if you have large flat screen good pictures look amazing, it made me to go back to Nikon DSLR from the small cameras.

Besides portable harddrive/usb you can also play from network connected storage, even Linux storage via Samba works well. Also there is upnp option.

As far as flac playing, it does play but I have not used it a lot as squezeeboxes serve this purpose.

I have an Asus O!Play which is somewhat similar. Audio sounds ok but you will quickly remember why you love your Squeezebox.
The network connected variety of "media player" is even nicer - you can rip everything in the house and store the disks away.

The WDTV boxes, like most non-Squeezebox devices, can't play music gaplessly.

What does gaplessly mean? Would you please give me an example? Thanks Bob

On some albums (especially live ones), the tracks on the disc flow directly into one another. They will play this way on the Squeezebox. On the WDTV, they will have a small gap of silence between them.

Got it. I thought it was when you missed the first second or two of the track.
