Richard,

Thanks for the reply. I am so happy to see things moving in this direction! I really want to dig in and help in any way possible. I have had some good experience with java and c++ but most of my stuff is web based asp, php, cold fusion, and database programming stuff. I was able to craft a nice slimserver plugin that I was successfully able to lock up my server every time I accessed it with :-). At any rate a million thanks and please let me know how/if you need me.

As for my "wishlist" I really am not looking for anything to fancy initially. Abitily to search artists and songs, add them to a playlist, save the playlists, are really what I would like to see initially.

I guess I would just like to see a clean, responsive (quick), uncluttered, unbloated, interface stripped of all the crap that people never use, or should have used another app to accomplish. I love slimserver and softsqueeze, dont get me wrong, but I am just aching for better navigation of my music when I'm listening from my pc. I think you guys are really doing the community a huge favor.

Hey, are you planning on using any of the sql backend stuff eventually? I would imagine that this would help with speed issues in queries and whatnot?

Only question I have is if you have posted any sort of a beta for download to this new player you are working on? I would kill to get my hands on even a semi-working version and could at least do some help testing.

Regards,
Anthony

Anthony,

The full screen mode in the latest version of Softsqueeze is based on
the Slim devices skin. In addition to the usual display and remote
control emulation it also displays a simple playlist and album art for
the currently playing track. This is still work in progress, Graham will
be working on enhancing the existing skins to include these new features
soon.

Also in the pipeline is a search and browse for the music database,
being developed by Brian. We have an early standalone prototype working,
and will be integrating it into Softsqueeze over the next few weeks.
This uses the slimserver XML interface, so the functionality will be
similar to the web interface. Once the slimserver database backend is
completed Brain and I are expecting that we will be able to improve the
Softsqueeze interface with more functionality.

This will all take a little time to come together, but once it is
completed I hope that you will be pleased with the results. If you have
any particular functionality you would like to be included, now is a
good time to add it to the wish list.

Regards,
Richard

Anthony,

Thanks for your interest. At the moment the search functionality is not
yet integrated into Softsqueeze, so it is a little early to post yet.
When it is working it will be included with the slimserver nightly releases.

It is an interesting question about the sql backend. The plan is to
still perform all searching and browsing via the slimserver. Many people
use Softsqueeze remotely, and this is the easiest way to make sure the
application works for everyone. However if that proves too slow direct
access to the database might be a possibility.

Regards,
Richard
