Tried the settings "Unlimited bit stream" while playing a wave file. The
squeezebox does not play "No increment of the elapsed time" even though the
server indicates that the player is on and the play function is operable

still dead!!!

can I force a firmware upgrade?

If you are not playing mp3 files then yes you need LAME as the server
converts to MP3 to stream to your player. LAME is an audio codec and you
can google it and find out where to download the latest version, you will
need to throw it on your windows 2000 machine and then tell the server
settings where it is located.

To prove your box works you can set the bitrate limit on your player to "no
limit" (player settings page) and then play the .wav file it should play
just fine.

I'm using Win 2000 sp4. I notice that the elapsed time does not index on
the Squeezebox. The settings in the server "Bit stream" show the following

Note: You do not appear to have LAME installed. SlimServer will need the
LAME MP3 encoder installed on your system to do conversion to MP3. You can
find out more about LAME here.)

I don't know what LAME is or if I need it.

still no sound...

Firewall turned on now on your PC? What OS are you using? Linux installs
Ipchains by default, Windows might or might not install the built in XP
firewall depending on which service pack you have loaded.

I upgraded my pc. My squeezebox and slim server indicate that the device is
playing but I don't hear anything. What am I doing wrong?
