Very excited to see that Bug 16667 has been fixed and will be rolled out with the next firmware. But my question is: how and when do I get this update? Andy G stated:

"--- Comment #16 from Andy Grundman <andy@slimdevices.com> 2010-12-01 15:41:10 PST ---
This is fixed and will be released with the next ip3k firmware update as part
of 7.5."

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16667

Not sure what this means in terms of timing for when it will be available to end users -- any ideas? (I didn't post this in Bugzilla, not sure if these kind of questions are appropriate in that forum.)

BTW, big thanks to Andy for working with Rhapsody to get this fixed -- hope it didn't ruin your holiday.

Yes, I am excited about this fix also! I want to begin listening to Rhapsody again real soon. And yes, the sooner the better, but I can wait to be sure the new firmware has been perfected.

One question, when this firmware is released, how is it installed into our ip3k players?

Thanks Andy, for your attention to this issue and for keeping Rhapsody subscribers informed. I feel confident that Logitech and their Squeezebox developers want to keep their products the best that they can be. I really love the Squeezebox system. Squeezboxes have affected my entire home environment. Also, thank you to Andy but also thank you to so many members of these forums who have helped me and others get started and then fine tune the Squeeze experience.

Either mysqueezebox.com or your local squeezebox server will prompt your ip3k squeezebox for an upgrade (SB3 or SB2) then you press the brightness button and it installs.

Or you have the SB3 set to automatically upgrade (recomended as only the original ir remote has the brightness button), then it will just upgrade as soon as the server has the new version (server= mysb.com or local sbs).

The Boom will just upgrade as soon as the servers has the new version.

If you are present you might catch it while doing it I think it flashes some message.

But it is likely that one day it is upgraded without you notiving. Fw version is somewhere in the menu.
It is also on the info page in squeezeboxserver settings, so if you take note on what it is today and when that number has changed you know it's upgraded :)

Thank you. So, my Boom's firmware is listed as 50.... I will look for that number to change not the Squeezbox Server version which is 7.5.1 30836 ? Thank you once again for your help, Mnyb.

Is there some easy way to know what the latest firmware versions are for each player? And some form of changelog? I seem to remember seeing this out on the wiki, but can't find it now.

No point in trying to use Rhapsody until I know I've got updated firmware.

Or here.

http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/

Here you can pick fw to install yourself if necessary (was sometimes needed with the controller).

Hi Andy.

I have only tried it for about 10 minutes but it seems to work :)

I can change tracks without the previous connection error message and skipping of tracks. I will let it play for the next 8-10 hours and then check the server log for further info and report the result in this thread.

By the way, it plays synchronized on 2 x receivers, 1 x Boom, 1 x touch, 1 x radio and a controller.

The SBS runs on Windows 7

Hi Andy

It seems like the skipping problem is gone, but now Rhapsody stops playing at som specific tracks.

Iron Maiden - Powerslave (1984) track # 1: "Aces High" is one of them (it worked before Rhapsody moved there servers)

Is this a Rhapsody error?

This is the message witch appears on my Boom: No EA Found. Invalid Combination of Track Id: [Tra.2049679], Format: [RAD MP3]

Now my server log looks like this:

Yes it did, but I can live with it since the skipping problem has stopped :)

When will the 7.5.2 come out as an official release?

What about this one:

Can you enable plugin.rhapsodydirect debug mode (Settings -> Advanced -> Logging) which might provide more info.

Now it works for me as well, it must have been a Rhapsody bug. It has played for three hours now without any issues :)

plugin.rhapsodydirect is set to debug mode

Again, thanks for your support and the fix for Rhapsody.

I know 7.5.2 is not yet officially out, but I upgraded to it to get the Rhapsody fixes. It works fine on my Classic/Radio/Touch SBs, but there is a problem with the Boom. There is no audio output when playing Rhapsody streams. I get the same problem with SBS running on ReadyNAS Duo and my Mac.

Is anybody else experiencing this? I'll try again tonight and see if there are any interesting errors in the SBS logs.

Well, it started working this morning. These Rhapsody issues are so non deterministic!
EDIT: its failing again - no sound. It even caused the Boom to reboot once. I guess it could depend on many factors, including which server in the Rhapsody farm we connect to.

I have been streaming Rhapsody flawlessly ever since the new 51 firmware. The 192kps quality is excellent and it is so nice to listen to an album straight through. By the way, I sync Radios/Booms/Touches over SBS primarily.

Thank you.

Right now, I'm only running my Touch and haven't downloaded the 7.5.2 fix, yet. Is my understanding correct that the 7.5.2 update will have no effect on Rhapsody playing on the Touch---in other words, the update only fixes Rhaspody on the Duets, Booms, etc. but not the Touch?

I continue to have ongoing (but relatively few) Rhapsody skipping instances when I'm playing through a playlist. The track will stop mid-song and then skip to the next. If it'll solve this for the Touch, too, I'll be all over the 7.5.2 update.

Thanks..

For me, 7.5.2 build corrected all skipping/stopping issues with Rhapsody all across the board... Touch,Boom,Radio, sync or no sync.

Hmmm...now if I can just figure out how to get 7.5.2 uploaded to the Vortexbox (I have no idea how to do this but have a query posted over on their forum), I might give it a try. If anyone here knows a step-by-step (for a Linux virgin) of how to get 7.5.2 onto the VBA, I'd be grateful for the advice.....

The Linux rpm for SqueezeBoxServer 7.5.2 is built with perl 5.12, so I think you'll have to upgrade to VortexBox 1.6/Fedora 14 to use it.

VortexBox 1.5/Fedora 11 uses perl 5.10, not 5.12, so I doubt the SBS 7.5.2 rpm will work in this environment.

I have installed the SqueezeBoxServer 7.5.2 nightly on my VBA (running VB 1.6/F14) and find that it's working very well. Rhapsody glitches on my Transporter and Duet Receiver are gone.

Here's how to get the current SBS 7.5.2 nightly (31599) on your VBA:

1. Login to your VBA as root.

2. Issue the following commands:

wget http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.5/sc/31599/squeezeboxserver-7.5.2-0.1.31599.noarch.rpm

rpm -Uvh squeezeboxserver-7.5.2-0.1.31599.noarch.rpm

service squeezeboxserver start

3. Once SBS 7.5.2 is running, you will need to upgrade the firmware on your ip3k devices (Transporter, Boom, Duet Receiver, SB 2/3). In some cases this will happen automatically.

3. Once SBS 7.5.2 is running, you will need to upgrade the firmware on your ip3k devices (Transporter, Boom, Duet Receiver, SB 2/3). In some cases this will happen automatically.

Thanks very kindly...got your instructions on both forum. Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do the 1.6 upgrade...gulp.......I will plan to follow Andrew's instructions to the letter and, if successful, will then do the 7.5.2 instruction from you. Again, thank you.

Ron et al...

It was a little bit of a saga---actually more than a little bit---doing the VBA upgrade to 1.6. But, I finally got it done with a $20 used monitor I found at the local used computer parts store, and the keyboard off my PC.

After about a dozen unsucessful attempts at following the 1.5 to 1.6 script on the VB website, I finally gave up on that and figured out how to do a wipe and complete new install of 1.6 (it wasn't at all obvious how to do this for a newbie) from the ISO disc I had to make.

Reinstalled my music files to the VB from my USB backup drive, and then updated to SBS 7.5.2 which, by the way, was the easiest part of the whole job (thanks for posting those perfect instructions!). The only tiny little casualty was a small part of one playlist----had to skip about 6 tracks--coming over from the backup due to some of the filename lengths being too long. Something must've changed slightly with the VBA/Fedora 14 file length limitation or something. But, I can easily reconstruct it. So, I'll listen to Rhapsody for a good long while tonight and see if it hiccups at all. Otherwise....the music be playin' again!!!! Phew..................

I guess this doesn't matter now, but the RPM should work with perl 5.8, 5.10 or 5.12.

We will be adding this version to our Yum repo next week. At that point you can just use the GUI updater to get SqueezeBox Server 7.5.2

That's great, Andrew. In the meantime, now that I'm such a Linux expert (NOT!!), I was able to follow Ron Olsen's instructions and it installed perfectly....

Are you going to use r31599 or the latest release, which at this point, is r31603???

Andrew,

What's different between the version of SBS in your repos vs. the slimdevices version? Are there VB-specific changes, or bugfixes for recent Fedora changes?

I used to maintain the RPMs, but have since moved to running a debian Sheevaplug and have also dismantled my home VMWare server that I used to build and test RPMs. It would be great if the slimdevices RPMs had some attention from someone using recent versions of Fedora (as well as SuSe and CentOS).

Do you have patches you can submit back to slimdevices that would allow you to use the slimdevices repo instead of maintaining your own SBS RPM?
