View Full Version : Both interfaces (eth0 & wlan0) up

Hi all,
is it possible to configure both interfaces to be up? Ideally with two fixed IP addresses? eth0 shall have a lower metric than wlan0.

The idea is that each time a ethernet cable is attached, traffic is routed via eth0. When no cable is connected, wlan0 is automatically used.

I am thinking of a /etc/networking/interfaces like:

# hotplug on eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.27.20
metric 0

# wlan0 always on
auto wlan0 inet static
address 192.168.27.21
metric 1

Is there a way of doing so?
How could a REAL interfaces file look like?

Thanks,
Hering
