This is a silly question really, but I have a tosh Libretto with a wireless
card running XP. I have tried softsqueeze, but it wont have it. javaw.exe
takes all the cpu and the sound is very broken. Is this a no-hoper or is
there a way to make it go?

Graham,

At the moment I think this is probably a no-hoper! I think the Java mp3
decoder won't be able to keep up on a Libretto. I am surprised it even
runs XP! You could try streaming an uncompressed file (for example a
flac file) and this might work as it uses a lot less cpu. The slimserver
will transcode a uncompressed file to mp3 to limit the bitrate, with a
little fiddling in convert.conf you probably could get it to transcode
an mp3 to uncompressed for the Libretto.

Let me know if it works ...

Regards,
Richard

Thanks Richard. XP runs surprisingly well! I'll try convert.conf. Is it
specific to the 'player'? I don't want to muck up my other players.
