Hello fellow squeezers,

Something has changed with squeezeboxserver 7.5.1 that is quite annoying.

The alarm has been set to play BBC iPlayer radio 4 stream quite happily for ages. But recently it will not work - it defaults to the backup alarm instead.

This only seems to affect BBC iPlayer - other internet radio stations play fine with the alarm - and I can manually set iPlayer, just not for the alarm!!

There's a rather unhelpful error message in the logs that says

[10-09-06 19:57:04.0143] Slim::Networking::Discovery::Players::_players_err or (145) Unable to get players: Connect timed out: Transport endpoint is not connected

Any ideas?

I've moaned about apparent instabilities before - I just hope that Logitech are listening: please, stability before gimmicks!

Thanks

The BBC Radio 4 stream seems to be fairly fragile at the moment, often taking a long time to start and sometimes glitching and burbling. I would suspect that it is issues at the BBC end that are causing the stream to not start fast enough and lead to having to sound the fallback alarm, rather than a Squeezebox issue.

Thanks - that would make sense.
There must be a config setting/hack to prevent the backup alarm from kicking in too soon. Any ideas?
Am sure this used to work just fine - would it be worth updating the iPlayer plugins?

It is always worth updating the iPlayer plugin, there are regular fixes to deal with changes that the BBC make.

Definitely keep the plugin up to date as BBC can make changes which knock out a few but not all of the iPlayer services.

The BBC were doing a big changeover at the weekend and iPlayer service was unavailable for a time.

It's possible that some BBC URLs have changed and the "old" URLs are still cached by SBS.

Ok, I'm being stupid now. How do I update the plugins?

Goto the WebUI Settings/Plugins page you used to install the plugin. If there is an update available it will be shown in a list before all the other plugins. Check the box, click "Apply" and SBS will be restarted.

Still doesn't work.

BBC iPlayer works fine when played normally, but never with the alarm.
Am using v1.9 of the plugin.
Have tried every combination of audio format from the plugin settings page
Have tried with ethernet connection

Just annoying backup bleeping alarm every morning.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!

Have you cleared the alarm playlist and resaved them? I can't remember how we made this work off hand, but the issue is that iplayer will need more than the url to be saved for those mediaselector urls - it will also need the parser to be recorded in the alarm which I don't think is supported. I think the work around was to play a stream and then to set the currently playing playlist as the stream for the alarm, if this does not work play a stream and save the long url which is creates - then use this for the alarm.

It may be easier to use the WMA stream URLs probably from the BBC App
