PowerSave is an "energy-saver" type plugin that will turn your players off
after a specified amount of idle time.

The plugin works with both SLIMP3 and Squeezebox players. You'll need
a version 5.x server.

You can get the plugin here:

http://ultratrendy.com:31888/slim/

To install, copy PowerSave.pm to your Plugins folder and restart your server.
All configuration is done in the Plugins menu on each player - there is no
web interface.

All feedback, positive and negative, is welcome!

Thanks

Not to dis your plugin, however I do have a question about the
squeezebox and its "Off" state. Does it really use less power in the
off state versus on if it is on and paused?

When off, the display is still on, the tcp stack needs to stay active,
the IR sensor needs to be active, the processor needs to be active too,
the only thing not active is the audio circuits. Which when the unit is
paused the audio circuits are not using much power either.

This would be trivially easy to test with an ammeter. If I get bored
enough some time today, I might just give it a shot ;-)

the display itself, given that its based on a Noritake design would likely be
around 300-500mA. I expect turning off the display is actually the largest
power savings you can get. Current draw for the audio components isn't too
much either assuming 1.1V peak-to-peak line level to external amplifiers on the
analogue.

However, the off state has never really been about power saving, nor, I suspect,
is the plugin really intended for power saving. Instead its more about the
function of 'powering off' at a scheduled time.

Thanks for the new PlugIn Jason. Am I right in thinking that it will
only power down, after x minutes of inactivity AND nothing is being
played? It would be nice to have an option so that it will shutdown
even if something is being played. I'm thinking of the scenario where I
have dropped off to sleep listening to a radio stream!

Thanks,
Stuart.
