View Full Version : Issues with ???....

Ok, so I thought I was immune from the issues with the new display / software, but it appears I may not be.

The Setup:

2 wireless graphic squeezes (living room, bedroom) with signal strength 75%-80% consistently

8/23 nightly build and firmware on both

playing flac from a wired linux box (SuSE 9.1 Pro), CPU 10%-20% (mostly due to X)

Situation #1:

Started playing on bedroom this morning - no issues

Synchronized living room with bedroom - living room plays fine, bedroom cuts in and out

Stopped playing, started playing same song on living room - no issues

Synchronized bedroom to living room - living room plays fine, bedroom cuts in and out

Stopped playing, started playing same song on bedroom - no issues

Situation #2:

Tried to stop bedroom by holding pause - song repeatedly pauses and then restarts

Tried to stop living room by holding pause - song stops

Any ideas?

Michael,

I'm working on flac performance right now. Something definitely got
worse in the 33 firmware and I'm trying to figure out why. I am testing
at home right now using almost exactly the same setup you're described,
and I am seeing the problem too.

I'm hoping that this nasty bug will be solved by the same fix:

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506

Can you duplicate my problems as well? I suspect they are all related.
Perhaps 506 should be reclassified as a firmware bug.

Firmware 35 and nightly 9/03 are giving me much happier FLAC->WAV
streaming. A dropout now and then, but livable. Scrolling is also much
better.

Anyone with a SqueezeboxG and FLAC files, give that nightly a try. Huge
improvement over even slightly older firmware/server versions.

Look at my mail this morning. I have dropouts on songs that
have low kbs. And always on songs with 0 Kbs VBR. (this
song have of cource not 0 Kbs but it says that in
slimserver. They all work on mediaplayer and winamp)

Personally I'd love to have zero dropouts. Currently I'm getting maybe 1
per half hour of listening, which to me is not the end of the world, and
is certainly better than what I had a few weeks ago: either mediocre sound
via bitrate limiting to 320kbps MP3 or unlistenable FLAC->WAV with
constant dropouts and jerky scrolling.

It's also not clear yet if this is entirely a SB problem (I'm listening
via WDS and I've seen some interesting wireless behavior on my laptop in
that environment from time to time); I have to do a little more testing.

My current situation is not optimal, I agree. But for me it's livable, for
now. I also think that there will be further tweaks coming. The difference
from the original SBG server/firmware release to the current nightly is
dramatic. The question is whether others are getting perfect FLAC->WAV
wireless performance or are also seeing occasional dropouts. If it's
somewhat universal, that indicates that more tweaking might help. If it's
just me (and you), then it may be something to do with our setups.

That's an excellent way to help pinpoint the problem -- completely remove
one variable (wireless performance) from the equation. If you still have
problems with a wired connection, then there's no doubt that more
server/firmware tweaking is needed.
