I'm working on a similar "energy-saver" type plugin at the moment.
Progress is slow but steady. It will support individual power off after a
configurable amount of inactivity for each player. I'll announce here when
it's ready.

It would be neat if this could also drive an external device to remove power
from an amp or powered speakers....
Don't see much point in turning off the squeezebox if everything else is
still on as the amount of current this draws must be pretty small.

I don't have this sort of setup so this functionality won't be in there.
It should be easy for someone else to add in though.

I know there's probably not a lot of energy savings to be had here - this
is more to keep things neat and tidy looking (no endless scrolling of songs
that stopped playing hours ago, etc).

Felix had an old plugin that could control external switches. It needed a bit
of added hardware, but I'm sure it could be modified to use the geekport on
squeezebox. Of course, I'm not sure if that info is suported yet on the port.
