I'm guessing you've been asked before - I can't find the answer (sorry) - but is there anything (app/software) you can install on a Playstation 3 like Softsqueeze that alllows the PS3 to work as a player (Duet Receiver)?

I've got two SBR's and my PC running Softsqueeze and the final area of my house could be covered by the PS3. I'd love to be able to get the PS3 to stream the music too...

Possible?

No, there is no way to make the PS3 a SB client.

Buy another SB Receiver for that area (and you won't need your TV on either).

The PS3 does include a UPnP client/endpoint/renderer or whatever, and
so it might be possible for something to offer the existing SBS
stream.mp3 via UPnP, which you could then find on the XMB of the PS3 and
could play. I've never tried that, though, so it's just an idea - you'd
need some additional UPnP software to do it.

Would the PS3 Media Server program be of any help. Certainly can play local music and I think stream as well. PlayOn costs money, and really isnn't to good on streaming local media as yet, but you might take a look at that program as well.

Would the PS3 Media Server program be of any help...

Not in making the PS3 communicate with, or become a client of, SBS server.
IOW, it won't make the PS3 act as a SqueezeBox player.
The PS3 via a number of media server programs can be used to stream from the same music library as SBS though.

Even if the OP went the UPnP route it would have very limited abilities (like stream.mp3) and could not even be Synced with other SB players.

If you're looking for syncing, I think you'll end up needing another
hardware player. I bet you could pick up a used SBR for not too much cash.

I know that squeezeslave runs on the PS3 as I've helped several community members get it working.

Search the forums.

To advance any further you'll need to install Linux on the PS3, without it you won't be able to communicate directly with Squeezebox Server.

I just run PS3 Media Server alongside with Squeezebox Server on my server, to access my music library from the regular interface of my PS3.
