View Full Version : How to tell old SB from new SB??

2004-08-24, 23:37
Hi,

A few people are selling SB's and they aren't sure if their SB's have the
old display or the new display.

Assuming it has not been upgraded, how can one tell if a SB has the new
display if it is not plugged in / turned on?

Thanks!

The new display looks like a matrix of tiny dots when it's off. The old
display has obvious groups of blocks, one character wide.

Kind of:

...............................
...............................
...............................
...............................

or

..... .... .... .... .... ....
..... .... .... .... .... ....
..... .... .... .... .... ....
..... .... .... .... .... ....

You could probably tell by looking at the IR sensor as the new one is on
the same board, but I don't have my old one to hand to verify.

Cheers,
Chris.

If they aren't sure I'd just assume they have the old one. Anyone who
upgraded would know and the new displays have only been around for 27
days.

Hi,

Also, if it starts up and has a large Slim Devices logo, it's a graphic
display. If it starts up and goes directly to 'Welcome to Squeezebox /
Free your music!', it's the character display.
