That may be it. Tonight I encountered the same situation when I tried "fast
forwarded". 2x, ok, 4x, ok, 8x, ok, 16x, no sound, 32x, no sound... Then I
went back to normal speed. The next track, played smoothly, but suddenly it
powered off spontaneously! I powered it up again, but "lost contact". I
closed SlimServer and opened again. No effect. Then I found out that my
internet connection was gone. I "power-cycled" cable modem and router. I
don't know whether the loss of internet connection has something to do with
Squeezebox, but the current software and/or firmware has some bug for
I can't go back to 5.2.1 as I have installed graphic upgrade...

I am waiting sw/fw upgrade!

After upgrading to 5.3, I noticed an increase of behaviour like this: losing
contact with server when performing a few actions shortly after each other.
It was the main reason I did a complete reinstall back to 5.2.1, including
downgrading the firmware to 29.
In everyday use that release (5.2.1) is a lot more stable, and performs
without problems.
I don't use the graphic update, so I don't need 5.3
Running wireless on WinXP

Good luck,
