i am running 2 hardware players, and 3 software players (java players). they WILL sync up but they become out of sync and sometimes horribly out of sync while playing a 1 hour playlist.

all players are over wireless, with a freshly rebooted server and router. .

every setting pasted is the same for all players

Maintain Synchronization is ON
Player Start Delay (ms) 0
Player Audio Delay (ms) 0
Minimum Synchronization Adjustment (ms) 10
Network Packet Latency (ms) 2

for the server I have
Synchronized Players Startup Delay (ms) 800

Im running the latest version of squeezebox server.

any ideas?

Syncing on software players is not supported.

The 2 hardware players should sync though.

Just in case you are not already aware of this, be advised that sync'ing of software players doesn't work very well in general. There are too many latencies related sound card drivers etc that are outside of SBS's control to maintain the sync. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't. You can try tweaking the sync settings, but because of different characteristics of home networks, operating systems, pc audio systems and so forth those are going to be specific to your system, so there aren't any one-size-fits-all recommendations and you'll just have to experiment. And even then it might not work with the software players.

But let's start with the easy stuff: do you get good sync if you only sync the hardware players? Sync of hardware players should be reliable, and if it isn't, that's the place to start troubleshooting. Also, what are you trying to sync, your own music from a local SBS, or streams from mysqueezebox.com, or something else?
