Hello,

I know you guys have been busy with alot of new features, but I don't
see any new status on "Bug 230: Native FLAC Decoding at Squeezebox".
Can you let us know where this feature stands amongst all the other
work planned? Is there any particular technical problem holding it
up?

Thanks!

Just so everyone knows: I did *not* pay Larry to ask this question. ;-)

PS. I'd add yourself as a CC on the enhancement bug; it's the only
way that I am aware of to loosely 'vote' on the importance of
a particular feature to the user community.

I've converted everything to FLAC have a phatbox in the car, and a RIO
Karma. I'd be happy to see this implemented. I saw a thread about
SlimDevices build there own....hope this wouldn't adversely effect FLACing
efforts, but just be a transcoding process.

Is the phatbox the same as the Kenwood Keg? Is FLAC noticeably better than
MP3 in the car? I have just got a Keg installed, so would be interested to
compare. I use VBR (Lame preset --extreme), so wouldn't expect a noticable
difference.

It is unlikely that you would notice the difference.
The problem is that cars tend to move, and there is a huge
amount of noise from the engine, wind, tires, other traffic, etc.

Many car-oriented CD players have compressors, so that
the soft levels can be made loud enough to hear
over all the noise.

Of course, it depends on the car, but my Lincoln is not
really a place to listen seriously to music. Perhaps a
Bentley or Rolls.

Yeah, the Phatbox is the Kenwood Keg. Flac vs. MP3 quality, Coke vs. Diet
Pepsi, I don't know, since I got an SB I wanted to take the idea to my car,
server based audio, PhatBox seemed the choice dejour. I download a lot of
live shows from Archive.org, etc.. and they all come in SHN and FLAC so I'm
kind of partial to the whole loseless thing.
