View Full Version : Latest Nightlies and Softsqueeze?

I seem to remember Sean or Dean saying that the latest
nightlies have problems with Softsqueeze. Has this past
now? If not when will it be safe to upgrade and have
Softsqueeze continue to work? Or will, perhaps, a new
version of Softsqueeze be required?

Daryle,

Nightly releases are development snapshots - not intended for normal
use. If you want to track the nightly releases, please also sign up
for the checkins mailing list where you can see what's changing and
when it was changed - this list is not the best place to ask.

Anyway, no Softsqueeze is not updated yet, and yes, Richard's working
on it.

Sean

Darlye,

A new version of Softsqueeze that fixes this problem is now in the very
latest nightly (Dean built a new 'nightly' about half an hour ago).

Regards,
Richard

Just an observation that a significant amount of traffic on this list
already involves talk about the nightlies. Usually in terms of test
results bug fixes (eg. "yes that's a known problem; try the latest
nightly since it fixes it."). As such it is often somewhat unclear
what list to post to when discussing these issues. Possibly developers;
but I don't want to tread on any toes since I'm not a developer. But
if that is where discussion of nightlies should go then great and
perhaps that should be reinforced on this list. Alternatively
perhaps a new list for user test discussion of nightlies should be
created? Finally, given the list traffic pertaining uniquely to
Softsqueeze issues, perhaps it deserves its own list?

Sorry, actually I agree... after replying, I thought about it a bit and
realized that more people running the nightlies is exactly what we
want, and we need to find the best way to manage it as the pool of
adventurous (and helpful) testers grows. As you point out, it's not
clear where to go because depending on the issue, it might be relevant
to something happening already in discuss or dev, but maybe not (new
issue or bug discovered, for example).

However, we're usually reluctant to establish new mailing lists because
we don't want to important issues to get lost because somebody wasn't
following the right list.

So... suggestions? One thing I've considered is to make a nicer web
page for the nightly index, which displays an automatically generated
list of all the checkin comments for the last week or so. That would
make it easier to see what's new, and what's different between
particular nightly releases. I'll talk to Dean about it, but more ideas
from you all would be appreciated.

For the mean time, yes, I think this is a fine place to talk about the
nightlies.

Thanks,
Sean

Sean,
It would defintely be helpful to include comments on the changes included in
the nightlies. I think there are many like myself, who are not developers, or
having any problems/issues with the their SB's. We may download the nightlies
out of curiosity or the assumption that the change is a needed improvement.

Hi all,

I was playing with Skins in V5.2.1 and selected "Touch", when I try to
change back I cannot because the Skin list is not displayed in the
Interface Setting of the Server Settings. "You can choose a look or
"skin" for the web interface from the list below." is blank.

How do I get back to normal?

Mike
