it shouldn't be ... what are you using to rip? and how are you listening to
the files? typically, ripping software will have a normalisation function
that allows you to set peak levels to be the same across all your files, but
it's best not to use it ...

Why is it that mp3 volume is different than the same sone played via a
CD's cda file? How does one control the volume for ripping?
