Brand new here, so bear with me please. I've had my computer hooked to
stereo through an RCA line for years. We moved and now I'm ready for a
wireless media player and have decided the Squeezbox is the best. One
of the key pieces for me with the Squeezebox is being able to play
music from computer and Squeezebox in sync so I can have music flowing
throughout house. Before buying, however, I downloaded the Slimserver
and have my music on there and now need to have Softsqueeze so I can
give this a test drive. But, I cannot get Softsqueeze downloaded
properly. I have downloaded the zipfile but when I click
Softsqueeze.jar application, nothing happens (at least that I can
tell). I'm ready to buy the Squeezebox but want to make sure I can
play music from computer before doing so.

Any help or tips would be great.

Thanks,
Karl

Have you installed your Java environment?
Now that it is all included with SlimServer software, the best way to
install is to get the latest version of SlimServer. Install it and run the
web interface and go to SoftSqueeze link on lower left hand side under HELP,
and tick the two boxes in turn.

Thanks, Neil. Installing the latest version of Slimserver worked. I
now have access to Softsqueeze

However, I am stuck again. After clicking on Softsqueeze in Slimserver
"Help" menu, Softsqueeze is brought up, but I am not able to play
music. I have uploaded my music to the Slimserver, but I don't see
anywhere on Softsqueeze that would allow me to play music. I'm
assuming Softsqueeze is like WMP or Winamp (if I'm wrong please tell
me) but I don't see where to upload or play songs from Softsqueeze.
Lastly, Softsqueeze soon disappears or turns gray after trying to get
to find options to load or play songs.

Again, I'm new to this and hoping to get Softsqueeze figured out so I
can pull the trigger and get the Squeezebox.

Thanks,
Karl

Karl,

Try this one if you want to run a nightly release with working
softsqueeze:

http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/SlimServer_v2004-08-12/

I am working on some server changes which have broken softsqueeze for
the moment. Please note that running nightly releases is not
recommended for everyone... you should only do so if there's a specific
enhancement or bug fix you're looking for, or if you are tracking
day-to-day changes in the software (via the checkins mailing list).
