I'm running a ppc g4 400 with the latest OSX
installed, with slimserve 5.3.0.b1 serving a wired
squeezebox. I have many aac files, as well as many
songs in the apple lossless codec, but I have not gone
so far down that road that I can't turn back. Running
these 2 codecs, I expierience the frequent dropouts
that I have read about on these lists whenever I try
to do anything else with my machine (i.e. surf the
discus list while listening to tunes.) My question
is, what format should I be using, FLAC and MP3
encoded at a high bitrate? Am I right in assuming
that the dropouts are the fault of the slow proccessor
speed, and not bandwidth since I'm hardwired to the
squeezebox? Are there mac people out there with
faster machines that don't have these problems? Also
if I go to FLAC how do I get slimserver to see them, I
have it set for iTunes intergration. Hmmm.. Thats a
lot of questions, any help would be appreciated. - Tobias

Tobias,

I have an 800 MHz iMac running the latest released version of
slimserver, running 2 squeezeboxes w/192kbit mp3 files without a hitch.
It's my wife's computer, and she does the normal emailing iPhotoing
and word processing, and we never hear any dropouts.
