Since cents are being given freely...
How about player only with a video output of the player interface. This
combined with IR remote control could yield a TV based control. Properly
modulated it could be used throughout the house. (For those few rooms
without PC's)

volume control for volume. As for a whole home system, since one would
probably use the players synced with another player, I could see a player
serving an outside space being used without a display or traditional remote.
