I need some clarification.

I often read about SqueezeCenter on QNaps, LinkStations and other NAS products.

Digging a little deeper into it, it seems that you first need to install SSOD before you can run SC on one of those devices. Also this seems to be a rather tricky affair, which is only advisable for poeple with Linux skills and an affinity for hacking.
This is definitevly not for me! I want to listen to music and not fiddle around with incompatability issues for every new release of SC.

Isn't there a way of running SC straight forward on a QNap, just like you were installing it on your PC?

Check out this topic about the Sheevaplug. Combined with a usb harddrive you have a cheap well performing system which uses only 5-10 watt electricity (depending on usb drive used).
