I would still rather use some sort of TV Out from the
server to display the Status Header of a skin and
transmit that throughout the house. This way you can
see album art, album reviews (in the comment field
from All Music) or whatever information you choose to
display (the only thing I can't get to display on the
Status Header is the playlist.) I would guess it
would look a lot nicer than a camera image of your
Squeezebox. I did't think about the sound though.
You would not be able to hear anything through your
television (could this be accomplished with
Softsqueeze and distributing the audio from your
server as well?)

I like the TV out, but do we really need to listen to music thru the
TV? Unless you're referring to a home theater system or something
with some audio quality and power, they'd really be p*ss*ng off the
audiofiles among us!

And we need the playlists!

If more than a few people have "whole house audio" type setups, it would be
cool to see couple models of squeezebox to facilitate these setups:

A sqeezebox that is just the UI (the display, remote, and logic to
communicate with the slimserver)
A sqeezebox that is just for playing (just the audio portions, no UI
needed).

That way, you could stick the "player" model in your closet or basement
where you audio distribution setup is, and you could stick the UI-only
squeezebox out in the open and use it just to control the playback of the
"headless" player in the basement (via synchronizing them, or something
similar).

Anyway, I doubt there is enough demand for such a setup to justify the
design and manufacturing costs for the slim folks :)

Part of this discussion has come up before... reportedly, the just a UI
box is not feasible as the UI is most of the cost. However, the just a
player might be of use. Thing is, it could only be driven by your web
browser, which wouldn't do much for me. People buying Airport Expresses
might be interested though.

Todd,

Unless you hooked up an IR keyboard to your computer, you wouldn't be
able to control what you were seeing. That's the whole idea of a
camera on the squeezebox - so you could see it, and control it via IR.
