What feature is missing from the embedded version? I tried search everywhere but could not find a list of the differences. The download page only says the embedded version is optimised for speed but did not mention what are missing from the regular version. I assume there must be something the regular version does that the embedded doesn't. Otherwise, why the regular version exists at all?

See this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71768. The main changes are that (1) there is a choice of SQLite or MySQL as the database, and (2) the scanner code has been rewritten and is much faster with SQLite. Why do you think that a feature or features are missing?

The regular version exists because it will take some time to get all the bugs out of the embedded version, which is still beta/alpha. The embedded version will probably not become the "new regular" version until after 7.5.

Thanks for the info. Yes I saw that thread before. I was thinking the embedded version was a "lite" version to fit in the Touch instead of it being the next beta with a different name. This was why I think there must be some features dropped.

Edit:
One more question: I just read from another post that the Touch cannot transcode and does not have a computer UI. Does it apply to the embedded version?

Yes. No version of TinySC (the small built in server on Touch) will transcode nor offer web UI.
Obviously the full SBS server on your computer will offer both.

There is a lot of understandable confusion on this. When released, the Touch will use the embedded version, but it will run it in a special "lite" configuration that does not support transcoding, the web ui, or 3rd party plugins, although it will have applet support. However, if you run the embedded version on a regular server you will have the usual web ui as well as plugin and transcoding support (assuming whatever hardware you are using for your server supports it, ie, some NASs still won't transcode).

I hope that clarifies things a bit.

Thanks again aubuti. I got it now!
