My slimserver dies when I access the player setup for a HTTP client
using the web interface.

I do not know when this first started as I have only just restarted
trying to get my linux box working properly with slimserver again.

I am currently running the latest nightly (5.3 beta had the same
problem) on a Mandrake 10 box.

When running slimserver from the command line I get the following error
when I access the player setup for a http client:
Can't locate object method "maxBrightness" via package
"Slim::Player::HTTP" at /usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Web/Setup.pm line
140.

Slimserver then crashes and is not responsive to the web interface or
softsqueeze

This does not happen when I access the player setup for a
squeezebox/softsqueeze client.

Incidently I am also getting other errors when I run slimserver from the
command line, although that could be because I am running it under my
own username rather than the user slimserver. (how do I run slimserver
from the command line so that it runs as a program under a different
user?): This problem does not crash the server

Good find. I've got a fix. Look for it in tomorrow's nightly release.
