Hi everybody,

after a lot of searching around the forum I couldn't find a clear answer to my doubt, so I'm going to ask it here.

Suppose a SB Radio served by a SB Touch with an external disk connected via USB.
I plan to use the tiny server on the touch as I don't have a NAS and don't want a pc on all the time.

My question is: can I control both with a SB Controller if I'm sitting on my sofa, far from the touch itself? Or the touch will act as the "main controller" and can't be controlled by a SB Controller?

And the second is: can I select an internet radio from the touch even if it is the "master" (meaning: not connected to www.mysqueezebox.com)?

thanks everybody and apologise if already said... couldn't find it! :)

Yes

No

Yes, as long as your network is connected to the internet.

I'd like to add a question to this regarding using the Touch as the server. Currently I use mysqueezebox.com and mp3tunes for the majority of my music, and then switch to squeeze server on my PC which has all of my music in case I want a track I don't noramlly play on mp3tunes. I do find it a bit of a hassle swicthing between the two.

I am thinking of having a 32gig SD card in the Touch for the day to day music I play from my selected favourite artists (my wife hates to have to go through all our music collection)

And also a small USB Hard Drive (1.8") out the back which holds all of my music.

Is it really easy to switch between these, and will I be able to switch between them from my Boom or SB2?

Further, would a preset button on my boom set to a specific radio station work whichever SD Card/USB HD I connect to?

edit: One more question ;O) Currently my SB2 and Boom are connected as standard to mysqueezebox.com. What I like about this is when everything is off, the SB2 still displays the time. If I have it connected to the SBS, the time switches off on the SB2 when the PC is off. If I am using the Touch and tiny server, will the SB2 take the time off the Touch and tiny server? And will it still show the time when the Touch is in standby?

Your Radio can also control the Touch and the Touch can control the Radio :)

At present the SBS on the Touch only scans one external device. So it will read the USB drive *or* the SD card, but not both. Whichever is connected first is treated as the device with the music library. If both are attached when the Touch boots it chooses one -- I'm not sure which it chooses, but I would expect it to default to the USB drive. To switch them you would need to physically insert or remove one of the storage devices.

On your question about the Touch serving the time to an SB2, I haven't tested it, but I expect the SB2 would pick up the time from the Touch, even when the Touch is in standby.
EDIT: I got curious and tested TinySBS sending the time to an SB2 screensaver, and it works just like regular SBS, as expected.
