Does logitech support the v3 squeezebox? Searching their site, I can find not reference to the product. They obviously want to sell the new stuff, but I am a bit confused on the progression here. Did SlimDevices get bought by Logitech and they are just ignoring these legacy products?
Hoping someone can enlighten me - thanks.

Almost all of what the SB1/2/3 do is done through software; there's really not much to the hardware (hence the "Slim" in "Slim Devices"). So follow the Squeezebox Server threads, and you'll see what there is to see.

Basically, they're not really doing anything that's specific to the old units -- you're not going to get a new visualizer from Logitech, I don't think -- but the new capabilities they introduce work on all forms of Squeezeboxen whenever possible with hardware. And of course you could get a Controller for your SB3 if you want fancy handheld GUI.

*All* the ol products are still supported in the latest server software.

The SB3 has pretty much been discontinued, it is being reaplced by the Touch as the main Squeezebox product, although this has dragged out because of software delays on the Touch. I believe the SB3 is no longer in production, however it is still available through some retailers and will continue to have a 2 year warranty on it.

As the SB3 shares the same platform as other current players (Boom, Receiver and Transporter) any changes to the base firmware wil still feed down to the SB3 (and SB2 actually as it is exactly the same hardware just in a different case) if appropriate.

Slimdevices did indeed get bought by Logitech, this was a couple of years ago now (i forget when exactly) and Logitech did sell the SB3 for some time, although it was renamed the Classic at one point.

Have a look at the diffeences, and similarities, of the players here:

Also, I believe that the SB3 is now referred to as "Squeezebox Classic" - and is still sold... maybe that's how it is referenced on Logitech's site?

No, the SB3/Classic is gone from Logitech's web site. At least it is not on the US site, I didn't check the others. It is still available from some resellers, although I imagine stocks are getting pretty low. As I understand it the production of SB3/Classic ceased several months ago. However, as others have said, it is still supported via software updates, as well as warranty service.

Oops, you are absolutely right, the SB3/Classic is still up there. Click on it and it takes you to a page on the abandoned www.logitechsqueezebox.com web site with some decent info about the product, including a functioning link to the user's guide. I say "abandoned" because they announced a couple months ago that everything was being consolidated at the main www.logitech.com site. The pages at www.logitechsqueezebox.com aren't being maintained, and even still link to the online store at slimdevices.com, which has been closed for at least a couple months.

However, there is also info on the SB3/Classic on the main Logitech site. Just go to www.logitech.com > Support > Product Support > Audio > Squeezebox. It is good to see it is on those support pages, because those are going to be maintained, unlike www.logitechsqueezebox.com.
