Hi, I recently started using softsqueeze as a replacement for winamp,
mainly so that I can sync it to my two Slimp3's. First, my question. What is
the correct way to start softsqueeze? Do I just double click on the .jar
file? What is the function of the web start and applet html files?
Now to my problem. If I start softsqueeze by double clicking the ..jar
file it appears to start OK, but when I listen to music (mp3's) every time
the slimserver web page refreshes the music stops for a few seconds. It
appears that softsqueeze doesn't buffer the stream like winamp did. Or am I
doing something wrong? I am running Win2K with the latest release of
softsqueeze and the beta of Java.
Sorry if these questions are too simple but I have no experience with
Linux or Java.
I have tried to post this directly to the gmane newsgroup, but I guess that doesn't work. So I apologize if it shows up twice.

Mike,

The web start and applet files can be used to start Softsqueeze from the
Slimserver. In the latest release you will find Softsqueeze in the help
section. Otherwise double clicking on the .jar file is also fine.

You should not get the music stopping when the web page refreshes. Are your
Slimp3's also affected? It is possible your PC is maxing out on CPU. Are you
running Softsqueeze and the slimserver on the same machine? If so what spec
is it?

Softsqueeze does have a smaller buffer than Winamp as it is designed to
emulate the buffering in the Squeezebox. This together with support for the
slimtcp protocol is what makes sync possible.

Regards,
Richard
