View Full Version : Multiple instances of tags

Hi,

I'm experimenting with tags in .flac files, specifically how they affect how easy it is to access tracks on my Squeezebox.

I note that I can add multiple instance of tags, for example multiple artist tags. Would it be possible for slimserver to scan for all instances of tags and create the lists with all entries in.

For example, a classical piece played by the LSO and conducted by Richard Hickox would have two artist tags "London Symphony Orchestra" and "Richard Hickox". I would like to be able to find the track using either artist name.

Is this possible now, or could it be added easily?

Actually you probably want to tag that as:

BAND=London Symphony Orchestra
COMPOSER="Someone"
CONDUCTOR="Richard Hickox"
PERFORMER="bla"

rather than using the ARTIST tag.

There is an option in the slimserver to treat BAND/COMPOSER/etc as
ARTIST tags.

That said it would still be nice if you could support multiple
instances of the same tag in the slimserver for things that were
performed by multiple artists for example.

you can also set the tag for artist as: ARTIST1;ARTIST2;ARTIST3, then in the
server settings->additional->behaviour, set the multiple items in tags to ;

-kdf

although the official xiph recommendation for handling multiple
(whatever) in vorbis/flac tags is to use multiple instances of the
same tag. such as...
TITLE=I'm Afraid of Americans
ARTIST=David Bowie
ARTIST=Trent Reznor

It would be cool if just for compatibility with the rest of the world,
slimserver supported this in the same manor as artist;artist is
supported for id3 tags.

When I first read this I thought you were misunderstanding the situation completely!

Having re-read what you've said I completely agree with you!

I'd really like multiple instances of the same tag to all be used likethe artist;artist hack.

I'd also like to be able to browse by Performer, Composer, Band, etc.

This is a great suggestion. Can you file it as an enhancement on
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/

Thanks!

I'm a newbie, so forgive me for raising the dead if this issue is dead. But I've made the mistake, from the slimserver point of view, of putting multiple artist tags in my flac files. Browsing the forum, I came upon this old thread. Is this functionality may be going to be available?
