View Full Version : Initial setup problems

I mentioned in another post that I'd had some problems installing my Squeezebox and that I would document them.

My setup at home is perhaps non-typical:

(192.168.1.x) (192.168.2.x)
Cable Modem --> Router 1 --> Switch --> Router 2 --> switch
| |
slimserver Squeezebox

The Squeezebox is on 192.168.2.x network, and the slimserver is on 192.168.1.x network.

When I first plugged in and configured the SB I got a message about the Squeezebox requiring a firmware update and to hold brightness button down. I did that and the display changed to "Ready to update this Squeezebox" and just hung there.

Now, I figured that this could be something to do with the firewall in my Router 2 so I opened up the ports listed in the manual and tried again. This time it worked.

Perhaps it would make sense to mention that it is necessary to have these ports open at an earlier stage in the Getting Started instructions?

I'm not. There's just one router between the 192.168.2.x and 192.168.1.x networks.

I did try that, but it didn't work. I suspect this was because I didn't reset the server and it was still trying to connect to the old device.

Anyway, I opened up the ports on the router (all three), restarted slimserver, and reset the Squeezebox and the update worked OK.
