Hi,

I've just got my Squeezebox and, after some initial problems getting it working (I'll post another thread about this) I'm up and running.

My aim is to rip all my CDs into .flac format and store them on a large RAID5 array on my linux server.

However, before I get started I need to bottom out how best to rip and tag my discs.

I've got a lot of classical music and I'd like to be able to browse by Composer and Performer. For example:

Browse by Composer ->
Shostakovich ->
Symphony No.10 ->
Scottish National Orchestra, Neeme Jarvi (conductor) ->
play

Browse by Performer ->
Scottish National Orchestra ->
Shostakovich, Symphony No.10, Neeme Jarvi (conductor) ->
play

Browse by Performer ->
Neeme Jarvi ->
Shostakovich, Symphony No.10, Scottish National Orchestra ->
play

Does that make sense?

I will be using flac tags rather than IDv3 so I will make sure that all my .flac files have the relevant tags in them, e.g. Composer, Performer. I may even go to another level and tag Conductor, Orchestra, Violin, Piano, etc. These would then need to be grouped as "Performer" types, so the Performer examples above would look like this:

Browse by Performer ->
Orchestra ->
Scottish National Orchestra ->
Shostakovich, Symphony No.10, Neeme Jarvi (conductor) ->
play

Browse by Performer ->
Conductor ->
Neeme Jarvi ->
Shostakovich, Symphony No.10, Scottish National Orchestra ->
play

Would it be possible to modify Squeezebox / slimserver to enable this sort of browsing?

If it's the case that it's eminently possible and just needs doing then I'm happy to get involved in coding.

Any opinions on this sort of scheme?
