View Full Version : Multiple Albums with the same title - SlimServer bug?

Hallo people,

I wonder if anyone else can confirm that this is a problem...

If you have multiple albums of the same title in your collection (for
example I have an album called "Affirmation" by Savage Garden, and also one
of the same name by Beverley Knight) the SlimServer can't differentiate
between the two.

I'm currently building an ASP/WML interface to the SlimServer using the XML
skin. This lets me search the database via my mobile phone, it also caches
searches so as to lessen the load on the SlimServer. It works well, apart
from if I search by album name for something with multiple hits.

If I run an Album search for "Affirmation", SlimServer reports that there is
only 1 album that matches. If I click the link it generates, I get pointed
to a link:

olsonmain.html?song=&artist=*&album=Affirmation&genre=*

Which doesn't actually render any HTML!

Is there any way to get SlimServer to recognise that a collection might
contain multiple albums with the same name, by different artists, and
generate links of the form:

olsonmain.html?song=&artist=Savage+Garden&album=Affirmation&genre=*
And
olsonmain.html?song=&artist=Beverley+Knight&album=Affirmation&genre=*

If you have multiple albums of the same name - could you try a search for
them and see what happens? "Greatest Hits" is a good one to try!

Thanks all.

Best regards,
Howard

its well known, and oddly engough, often called the 'greatest hits' bug. Its
filed as an official bug. definately will get fixed, but likely only when a
proper change to the underlying data handling can be done. no band-aid will cut
it on that one.
