View Full Version : Streaming from computer's line out

In addition to streaming from my music collection or from internet radio, is it possible to use Squeezebox to wirelessly stream from my computer's line out? For example, if I'm watching a movie on my computer, can the movie's sound be somehow wirelessly routed through the speakers connected to my Squeezebox?

There are ways to do this - search for the WaveInput plugin for Windows and Linux for example which is squeezebox specific. You can also use Icecast to create a stream which the Squeezebox can tune into.

However, streaming this way will alway introduce a networking delay so it is usually not practical to use to watch DVD as audio will be out of sync with video.

If you have a Boom, you could use the "Line-in" port to play audio from the PC speakers.

There is a possibility of using something like VLC or mplayer which can alter video/audio relative timing but it is a bit hit or miss.

You'll want to use either a Wave input plugin or forward the audio to a streaming server that squeezecenter can connect to like any internet radio.

I've never used the plugins so can't comment on them -- but they are probably the way to go in the normal situation. I want to play the media on another machine so I use the second suggestion (I've setup Icecast streaming server on that machine and squeezecenter connects there).

EDIT: the lag issue Siduhe mentions is true, synced A/V is not going to work with either method.
