View Full Version : ANN: Lyrics Display Plugin

I'm pleased to announce a Slim plugin that displays the lyrics for the
current song on the Squeezebox display - and its not as daft an idea as
it seems! Get it from here: http://www.hare.demon.co.uk/Lyrics.pm.

Install it in the usual place, then use the up/down keys to scroll
through the lyrics for the current (hopefully slow!) song. Press the '+'
key at any time to refresh the lyrics.

Oops. That link should be http://www.hare.demon.co.uk/Lyrics.pm

And does anyone know of a comprehensive XML lyrics site? Or an
easy-to-parse HTML site? Lyrics.pm uses lyrc.com.ar, and its coverage is
a little sketchy.

Great - as soon as I announce this, they take the servers down. Last
time it didn't come back for 12 hours.

This plugin didn't work at all for me on OS X. It doesn't appear in the
Plugins menu on my SLIMP3.

Someone please clue me in: Would a plugin written for a Squeezebox work
without modification on a SLIMP3? If not, what has to be changed?

should work fine for the most part. plugins that somehow forced WAV playback or
made direct use of the tcp protocol might be strictly squeezebox, but I can't
think of any that would qualify. The biggest problem out there is that some
older plugins still only have downloads for slimserver 4.2.x versions. The
plugin API changed significantly for 5.x.

start the server from the command line with --d_plugins. You might be missing a
required module. On my system, it complains about XML::DOM. Unfortunately, Perl
refuses to install that module, claiming it wont work without 'force'. I haven'
thad time to look up how to force it.

Maybe I should redo this using a regex rather than XML::DOM. Considering
that the XML from the server has to be cleaned up before parsing, using
XML::DOM seems like more trouble than its worth.
