I was detailing the problem as seen on the Slimserver, however the problem
seems to be *exactly* reflected on the Squeezebox.

Strangely my observations do not chime with Peters.

There was one very odd thing when I went to look at the character display on
the Squeezebox. I had to restart it so I could reset it to use the
SlimServer instance that indexed the album in question. When the set up had
finished I browsed by artist name. The special characters in the artist name
did not look like gobbledygook but were replaced by their more normal
equivalents, i.e. Hy appeared as Hoy. However, pretty quickly the
Squeezebox reverted to showing the special characters as gobbledygook (this
may have been after I performed a search for artist, I am not sure).
