I'm using Apple Lossless which isn't transcoded. There was mention in
another thread of CPU problems when both iTunes and SlimServer are
running. That's almost always the case on my system. I'm going to check
what happens when I don't have iTunes running.

My theory is that it isn't CPU as by transcoding everything to MP3 the
processor is doing more work not less - I could be wrong of course!
