View Full Version : Browsing the Music Folder

2009-09-15, 15:10

I have a question regarding the browse Music Folder option. What I would like to be able to do, is keep an "Unsorted" folder within the Music Folder as a placeholder for files which I would like to browse and listen to, but NOT have them automatically added to the library. I find that incredibly annoying as it pollutes the library with clutter. I'd prefer to keep the library for albums which I have nicely ripped and sorted, and not have it filled with random entries created by browsing folders.

Is there anything I can do, or is this going to be a feature request?

I'm a SB Duet user running SC on a QNAP TS-109II

Many Thanks!

There's nothing you can do about it. The way SqueezeCenter works is that it can only play local music that has been added to its database and Browse Music Folder catalogs anything new that it finds.

There are various requests on file for exactly what you're seeking.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Please please please add this as soon as is practical. It's a pain having to perform a rescan after listening to new files.

Thanks again.

I believe this functionality has been suggested as part of a much wider change to the way SqueezeCenter handles its database. This is known as NewSchema (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/NewSchema and https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8303).

This isn't going to be a quick thing to impliment.

Hi funkstar,

That made very interesting reading, thanks for the link. I can see there's a lot of new stuff to look forward to there.

I have to say, I've been really pleased with the Duet in the year or so I've had it. Apart from the issue I've mentioned, the only thing I can think of to improve things, is a speed-up of the web interface. That said, I am running on a QNAP TS-109II so I shouldn't expect server performance. Keep up the good work!!

Best Wishes,
