Thanks alot Pike!

The Harmony team has been hard at work with these improvements, working closely with the Logitech Squeezebox team to get the IR codes as optimized as possible. If you have a Harmony remote, please update it and try it out as soon as possible. We welcome feedback on the changes and any other suggestions on how to improve the existing Harmony -> Squeezebox controls!

Speaking with Pike today, it appears that these configs should be better for all Squeezebox products -- past and present. I have not yet tried it myself (havnt 'updated' my Harmony One yet), but I will be this weekend.

I don't have a Squeezebox Boom for testing "HINT".

Currently the Squeezebox boom uses a different IR language with less IR commands.

Will have to look into this further.

Hi firstly thanks for this its been a great help as my setup has been tempremental with the old squeezebox commands (though i havent fully tested teh new ones yet)

As the people here seem to be the powers in the know i have a question/request. Are there any plans to get some basic harmony stuff into the Controller, power and volume would be great though if poss a input switch command as well please.

As an adjunct to this one idea that came to mind is that having an option inside Squeezecontroller/Squeezecentre to have a different amp for each SB/Zone would be superb and a counter for the you dont have an included amp comments i get from sonos owners :)

Thanks again

Matt

Have just added a Harmony One to our cinema room. The basic codes work well with a SB2.

How can I map the Squeezecenter Favourites to the "additional buttons" (the touchscreen)? Favourites 1-9 are presently shortcuts to streaming URLs.

What I'm looking for is just a button with the radiostation name (or graphic), eg "BBC Radio 4" which triggers a certain SC favourite (eg no.4) and would emulate 'press and hold 4' on the SB remote)

If there's no easy solution, I guess I can teach the harmony to learn prolonged number presses for all 9 digits.

Is this true? I use a standard Squeezebox remote with my Boom. In fact, when I set up my Harmony remote for my Boom, I was annoyed that it didn't include any of the number/letter keys, which work with the Boom (and make browsing much easier). So I just added the Boom as a Squeezebox; I get the number/letter keys now, and everything works.

Mine neither. I did do a firmware upgrade recently so the only thing I can think of is that it mopped up any device updates.. but that's just a wild guess.

I also didn't see it for my "Logitech Squeezebox 2" device, and I haven't hooked my remote up in months.

EDIT: Also, while we're on the subject, is there anyone with a Harmony One for whom controlling a Squeezebox works without any delay? That is, if you push the down arrow as fast as you can a dozen times, does the Squeezebox respond as quickly as it does with the regular remote, or (as it does for me) does the Harmony buffer the commands up and slowly dole them out?

Pike, I am somewhat less excited, because I still do not know how to translate these commands into much of anything functional. Some questions: how do I play a favorite? a playlist? Pandora or any other apps? Until these questions get answered, I remain stuck with two remotes (one controller and one Harmony) needed to get basic functions to help.

Sometimes people who work intently with a product cannot empathize with folks who only fool with this stuff once a quarter.

Any mundane help appreciated. John

It does now thanks to Mr Parry and you Dean.

I confirmed that all the IR codes used by the Squeezeboxes in our Harmony database also work with the Boom.

The Squeezebox Boom now has all the additional codes that we provide for the Squeezebox, v2,v3 and the SLIMP3.

Would it be possible to have a single button on the remote to activate and disactivate synch groups? Having to go to settings/synch/etc. it's *really* annoying.

When you have several SBs in your home, that's a function that you surely want to activate quickly.

The command "Browse by genre" exists on the Squeezebox, and works as you would expect.

However, although "Browse by artist", "Browse by album" etc are available on the Harmony remote, "Browse by genre" is not.

I have in vain tried to make the Harmony support understand what I want, but have received no help.

So perhaps better luck in this forum: would it be possible to add "Browse by genre" to the available remote commands for the squeezebox (3)?

I've been using my Harmony 1000 to control one of my SB3s for a good while now and not noticed many problems, it's always had descrete ON/OFF codes from what I can tell hasn't it?

If I have any issue (other than feeling stung by Logitech after paying for what I feel was an overpriced buggy beta for the Harmony 1100, but let's not go there) it's that fact that I can't find the non-descrete on/off toggle (like the red button on the original remote) since that's the only button I seem to be able to use to get my SB3 to send a WOL packet to my server when I'm trying to reconnect to it after changing back from SqueezeNetwork.

Is the power toggle code included now in the database?

No question it would be nice if Logitech set this up as one of the commands, but you can easily achieve this by setting up and adding a "sequence" of your own and then assigning it to a button.

Right now it's available (hex 0x0000f77a), but only if you've got the default setting of accepting JVC DVD codes. I expect that's why Harmony doesn't offer it: it likely maps to some weird JVC DVD button like Subtitles, and adding it to their Squeezebox database might cause problems for Harmony customers who actually own JVC DVD players.

Ideally for you, Logitech would add a new Slim Devices code for that feature; you could file an enhancement request on bugs.slimdevices.com to add a code to Slim_Devices_Remote.ir (and SqueezePlay source for Radio and Touch).

I've been unable to map 'press and hold a number' to any of the 'soft' button on the touchscreen. The Harmony One seems to eventually accept a 'continuous number press' in Learning Mode but, on replay, my SB2 doesn't respond at all.

My desire for this is so that other users of my media system can just press a button marked 'radioparadise' or 'radio 4' rather than having to be told which number button to press & hold for diffent favourites.

I can't see that there are discrete IR commands in the SB IR codeset for 'play favourite [x]'. Does anyone know hex code equivalents for 'press & hold [x]' which I can copy & paste into the Harmony setup for favourites 1-9? (?can the Harmony take such codes?)

Thanks in advance.

After the upgrade of my Harmony remote, I do have the "Power On" and "Power Off" commands, and these are also correctly mapped to my "Listen to music" activity.

However, I notice that the "Power On" command does not make my Squeezebox send a WOL to the server, which is quite inconvenient if the server is off. Any reason why the old "Power" command was mapped to send an WOL and the new "Power On" is not?

Hi,

known issue,
please see bug: https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4682

You can also workaround the problem by specifying the power on in harmony as a sequence of power toggle followed by power on command.

It would be extremely useful (for me at least) to have discrete codes to switch to MySqueezebox.com & SqueezeboxServer. With these the Harmony could be configured to switch the SB to MySqueezebox before powering down (which would allow Windows servers to sleep) & reconnect to SqueezeboxServer on powerup.

Anyone else interested in this?

Why not user Server Power Control plug in from GHarris - it will do most of what you seem to want?

DaveI do but it's not reliable (for me) at returning devices to the local network. I also find that when it does reconnect, my SB3 is in some strange state where it thinks it's on but is displaying the date/time screensaver & doesn't respond until powered down & back up again. That behaviour has only started since 7.4 so it's anyone's guess if that a problem with SvrPowerControl, wafty Logitech firmware or a combination of the two.

It just struck me that it would presumably be the proverbial piece of urine for Logitech to implement this & alleviate Mr Harris from re-inventing the wheel every time they dick around with the server software. ;)

new Squeeze Radio owner here.

It seems like the Listen to Activity will only restore a power from "sleep" mode.

The center key as well as the enter key does not allow you to progress through the menus you have to hit "right". [as least by default]

It would be great if they included in the addition commands to add a thumbs up/thumbs down for Pandora(I'm a junkie).

So glad it's supported on my harmony ....definitely helped my apprehension about it being remote-less.

hi - I'm considering purchasing a Harmony One for my living room setup...I've confirmed it works with all of my equipment, which is pretty cool. One question remains:

I have a SB3 in the living room that I want to control with the Harmony One and noticed earlier in the thread that someone mentioned the push-and-hold-Play for MusicIP mix making doesn't work, but I couldn't tell if that was still true or not? I use MusicIP all the time and that would be a bummer.

That was me (and one or two others I think). I checked out some other forums (e.g. remote central) and it seems that users can't set this up themselves, but Logitech Harmony support should be able to. I'll try sending an email to support, and report back if I get any joy. Unless there's someone from Logitech reading this who can help?

thank you! I appreciate it.

I assume you can still use the right arrow and scroll down and make a mix that way, right? So, it probably won't kill me not to have it, if that's the case :-)

BUT, it'd be cool!

Any other "gotchas" to be worried about? Reviews seem to be generally positive for the Harmony One. If not, I think I'll go ahead and get one.

Many thanks...

I may have found a tiny glitch, though I am not sure. I recently added a Transporter to my family of Squeezeboxes, replacing a Classic I had in the living room.

Since I had my Harmony (One) programmed already I never changed anything, but after a while I noticed something annoying. I have the Transporter set to "Pause at power off / Resume at power on" in the SqueezeboxServer Audio settings. I noticed that when I used the Harmony to power on the Transporter, it indeed resumed to play the song, but after 2 or 3 seconds, it stopped and restarted the song playing at that moment.

I also noticed that this did NOT happen when I used the original remote of the Transporter, so I suspect it has something to do with the "Power On" and "Power Off" commands in the database.

Just to stretch: I am not 100% sure if this is a Harmony bug, but maybe someone with a similar setup can confirm this issue. Nor am I sure if this is really a Harmony issue, or something that was introduced in the latest version of SqueezeboxServer (Version: 7.4.2 - r30215 @ Fri Feb 19 15:21:27 PST 2010 - Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8 - Perl Version: 5.10.0 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi).

Update

It turns out it's none of the above, but the real cause is User Error. In an effort to program the Harmony to switch the Transporter to use its optical input when playing a DVD, I must have left some settings that were the real cause of the problem. Apologies to anyone who looked into it.

Related to my previous post, I noticed this little detail in the 7.5.0 changelog:

#3932 - (Transporter / Boom) Add discrete ir codes for power_on, power_off, digital_inputs and line_in

Two questions:

Does this allow to select a digital input (or at least the digital input selection menu itself) directly?

Will these commands be added to the Harmony database, or can they be added manally in some way?

A positive answer on either - or hopefully both - would make things a lot simpler for me and I suspect a bunch of other people using the digital inputs of the Transporter.

1- Yes :)

2- Yes :)

I was a part of the team that got this done. The commands do work. Very well indeed, in fact. We just needed to wait until version 7.5 of the Squeezebox Server software came out to implement it.

That said, I'm not sure why the changes were not yet made to the publicly availble Transporter "device" in the Harmony database. I'll check in on that in the morning and make sure it's fixed ASAP.

The improved functionality is super handy when using the Transporter as a DAC. I'll be sure to not only have the commands added, but the inputs themselves defined so that you'll be able to select them during the activity setup process in the Harmony software.

UPDATE: The changes will start to be implemented tomorrow. 1 more "secret" command to test :). Will post again once done.

Um, I might be being dumb here, but how on earth do you add a Logitech Squeezebox Touch to the Logitech Harmony One devices list? It doesnt appear to be listed in the supported devices list anywhere, which just CANT be true, can it? Same company??

I have followed the instructions linked at the FAQ in the first post of this thread, but that assumes that you already have it installed...what am I missing here?

Surely, I don't have to manually teach the commands from the stock remote..?

Presuambly you could just set it up as an SB3 & then rename it.

OK then, I'll rephrase the question...

how on earth do you add a Logitech SB3 so you can rename it to Squeezebox Touch to the Logitech Harmony One devices list?

It doesnt appear to be listed in the supported devices list anywhere.

I have since manually added an SB Touch device and taught the commands one by one, and its officially the biggest PITA device I have had to programme, including an obscure no-name DVD player which was much easier to find, and this seems bizarre.

I'm guessing I'm looking in the wrong place, but where???

rbz5416
2010-04-26, 03:35
Granted the Harmony software is less than intuitive when you get down to the fine tuning, but I can't see why you'd have a problem adding an SB3. I have an 885 & software version 7.6.0 installed & have just run through the process.

Devices Tab > Add Device > Music Player > Digital Music Server > Logitech & then manually enter device model. It even gives Squeezebox v3 as an example.

squeezyjim
2010-04-27, 06:36
Yup, that's what I did in the end, I felt sure I was missing something, but alas no.

I went for the Harmony One BECAUSE it was by Logitech, my assumption being that although its a lot more expensive than the other one I was looking at, it should be no problem with compatibility with my squeezeboxes and it should be easy peasy to get them to talk to each other. Hah, more fool me, you live and learn.

Shouldn't ALL logitech products with an IR control be automatically added to the Logitech Harmony One software application, first, automatically, by process, before any other manufacturers get added? When you consider the pricepoint of these products, and how long they have been in the offing, surely that's not asking much?

...and why would I choose "Digital Music Server"? The SB Radio is not a Digital Music Server at all, and the Touch is only that if you want to make it so (which I don't). I knew I didnt want to control my actual Digital Music Server, which is in a cupboard and has no IR anyway, so that's just confusing. Its like calling something Toaster when you mean Fridge.

Just seems it would be better if one group of Logitech would email the other group of Logitech, a simple config file for each Squeezebox product, (or just one as the OP seems to indicate it would work for all) to add into the software directly, instead of relying on people counter-intuitively installing a 'Digital Music Server' device, calling it an SB3 and then going back in and renaming it and reprogramming half the buttons.

That simple solution would have prevented me from chasing my tail for an hour looking for a logitech product in a Logitech piece of software which *should* be there, but wasn't. Now I'm not convinced its installed properly, as I don't get access to some of the other fancy features described in this thread, which I have read from start to finish looking for a solution to this. Pfff.

Anyway, thanks for the clarification,

Cheers
Jim

Digital Music Server is just the generic primary category for devices that stream/play digital music files. It doesn't really fit in any of the other categories, does it?

What I'm looking for is just a button with the radiostation name (or graphic), eg "BBC Radio 4" which triggers a certain SC favourite (eg no.4) and would emulate 'press and hold 4' on the SB remote)

If there's no easy solution, I guess I can teach the harmony to learn prolonged number presses for all 9 digits.

Yeah. It’s good to be yourself. Same with you, I will try to do something. So I support your decision!

Hello friends,

Just a quick note to let you all know that if you have a Transporter and a Harmony remote, we have some long promised functionality implemented:

1- A mute command!!

2- Discrete input commands for digital inputs on Transporter. You can now select them in your activity setup (instead of adding all kinds of custom startup actions which tended to be hit and miss)

Please let us know what you think!

Cheers,

Keymaster

P.S. You need to have SC7.5 to have this work. You also have to add the improved Transporter device to your Harmony account and then update your remote.

I realize this is an ancient thread, but was hoping some of you might have come across this.

I've run into a problem with activities on my Harmony 900 remote when it comes to Squeezebox Classic (v3). I have it configured as "I want to turn off this device when it's not in use", yet, whenever I switch from listening to Squeezebox activity to some other activity, the Squeezebox remains on. It doesn't even pause playback when switching to a different activity. However, when I press the master Power/off button on the 900, the Squeezebox does get turned off then.

What can be the problem?

I tried adjusting the delays for the Squeezebox, but it made no difference.

FYI, I also have a Harmony 880 remote, and no such issues there.

Thanks!

What can be the problem? I have a 900 with a Touch & have no problems. In Devices I have Power set to PowerToggle, On set to PowerOn & Off set to PowerOff. Don't know if that helps?

I tried both options: Power Toggle as well as discrete Power On and Power Off. It makes no difference.

FYI, the original remote that came with my Squeezebox has only a single Power toggle button.

Have you tried manually adding a PowerToggle on exit command to the activity?

Got it figured out. It was a user error on my part. I had the "Watch TV" activity configured to leave all other devices "ON", and that's why Squeezebox was not shutting down when switching from "Listen to Squeezebox" to "Watch TV". My bad.

Can someone give me the Pros and Cons of using a Harmony 650 with Squeezebox? Thinking about getting one to tie all the toys together (TV, Roku 2,Cable TV, Duet, AVR receiver). I use iPeng, and have iPhone apps for the AVR and the Roku, but I still need two remotes for Cable box and the TV. Wondering if it's worth it to pick one of these up. I note some posters think IR control is outdated?

Thanks.

I see you have a Duet on your list of "toys" - the Duet Receiver does NOT respond to IR (I'm guessing the Harmony is ONLY IR?).

I use a Harmony 650 with my livingroom setup (TV, AVR, Raspberry Pi with KODI, DVD and Chromecast). KODI media center on RPi works great with IR remotes through the TV set via HDMI. I really like the different actions one can configure on the Harmony (watch TV, listen to music etc.).

But as mentioned before, SB Receiver doesn't have a IR receiver.

So maybe replace the Duet with my old SB 3?

I'm already running the Duet through the coax output, bypassing the Duet's DAC, and through the A/V receiver's built in DAC.

Would there be any difference in signal/sound quality? Would bits still be bits? Thanks!

Depends on whether the bits are moving towards you (blue shifted) or moving away from you (red shifted). This may affect the key of the music, but should have no affect on the sound quality. ;-)

Ah - the dreaded Doppler effect! :D

I would do that. Just tested my Classic with the Harmony 650, works flawlessly.

Sorry- one more question:

I assume that the Harmony does not offer the full Controller command menu. Can somebody tell me if "favorites" or "playlist" selection is possible using the Harmony? I know I can use iPeng, but I'd like to simplify this setup for other household members. Thanks again.

The Harmony system still is one way only: you can only send commands to
your system, but it can't interact with it. There's no such thing as
browse menus on the Harmony, because it can't receive that data.

Ok. Thanks to everyone who responded. Now I need to email Santa Claus to bring me one.

Couldn't wait for Santa. Works fine. I actually like the SB3 better than the Duet. It's readable from across the room, and I don't ruminate about the irreplaceable dead battery in the controller.

Not quite irreplaceable...

That's true, but the three no name batteries I've bought lasted 2 months before they wouldn't hold a charge. Glad they work for you.
