I've been working on a new SlimServer skin, "ExBrowse," and it's now
ready for a preliminary 0.1 release.

ExBrowse borrows ideas from SenseMaker, Fishbone, and the mock-up
posted a long time ago by Herb Caudill at http://ibamba.net/slimp3/
(which been down for several months now).

Screenshots and the download are available at:

Allow me a simple question:

What improvements/changes can I expect from your skin?

Always it's the practical questions :)

I'd describe ExBrowse as providing most of the advanced functionality
of Fishbone, but with a much cleaner, less cluttered interface.

Improvements? Nothing revolutionary. It uses a 4-frame layout with
"home" at the top of the browser, much like Fishbone. There are a few
nifty features; in the browser and playlist windows, the header shoes
up in the fixed frame above, for example, so it doesn't scroll.

It's essentially an evolution of Fishbone and Sensemaker.

I downloaded the skin, and on WinXP / Explorer 6 all I get a black screen
with 2 inactive scroll bars. Am I missing something ?

Erk. That shouldn't be happening.

What version of the server software are you using?

I'm seeing the same thing with IE, but it looks great in Firefox. It does
indeed look very uncluttered. Ironicly, looks a lot like teh early versions of
the fishbone skin. Of course, it makes sense when you know it too was inspired
by the same mockup long since gone from the net. Some feature requests and
personal colour choices inevitably took it in other directions.

On nte: if there is cover art, the title/artist/album info seems to get pushed
down below the progress bar with no ability to scroll.

Good Work, Jacob!

Jacob,

One other note. The player settings link seems only link to the player settings
for the first one in the player list. I switch players, but still only get
player settings for the one.

Argh. Found the problem; IE doesn't recognize self-closing tags, so it
thought my entire page was a script...

I put up a new version which should render better in IE 6:

I'll work on that. I don't have any cover art at the moment, guess
it's time to get some...

Thanks!

Gotcha. I wasn't passing the current player to home.html from
index.html. Fixed for the next release. :)

(Open up index.html and add "?player=[% player | uri %]" to the home.html frame)

Thanks,

Nice. Here are some issues I see on Safari (Macintosh):

1) the song progress bar appears between the 'Now playing 1 of 11' and
the title of the song. That might be where you want it, but it seems a
little tight there.

2) The 'Volume' box simply shows the word 'Volume'. There seem to be
places that I can click as well, but I don't see anything visual.

3) The 'Browse by' button has labels like "BROWSE_BY_GENRE" and
"BROWSE_MUSIC_FOLDER" rather than the friendlier "Browse by genre",
etc.

4) The 'Search for' button has the same problem, with labels like
"SEARCHFOR_ALBUM".

Thanks for the feedback!

#3 and #4 I know about, those should be fixed soon. I haven't seen the
first two though. What version of Safari and Mac OS X are you using?
