View Full Version : SLIMP3 latest firmware question and unreliable remote responsebug

Hi,

I've been happily using a SLIMP3 for about 1 1/2
years now. I ran into a problem after upgrading to
SlimServer 5.1.5 and have been searching for
information related to it. I have a couple of
questions:

(1) Are all versions of the Squeezebox firmware
compatible with the SLIMP3? If not what is the latest
firmware available for the SLIMP3 (not easily found on
the web site)?

(2) The bug I've run across is that I need to give the
SLIMP3 box multiple shots with the remote to get
anything to happen. An example is simply power on,
when I hit the remotes power button I see the time
display flash (so something IR happened) but the box
doesn't move to the now playing screen and stays off
(time still displayed). Same kind of thing happens
with trying to playback, takes 4-5 presses of the
button to get the playlist started. Has this been
reported in the past and/or fixed? I'm not sure if I
need the latest server software or new firmware (see
question 1 :-))

Thanks,

Dave

No, the Squeezebox has completely different hardware and firmware from
the SLIMP3. Last I knew, the latest version of the SLIMP3 firmware was
2.3; it's in CVS, I have no idea if it can be found on the web site.

Have you checked that the batteries in the remote are OK? This is roughly what hapens when the batteries get low...

Also, the angle on the SLIMP3 is pretty important - the further away from "right in front" you get, the lower the success rate with remote.

Regards, K.

Hi Karl,

While I certainly hope I didn't post that simple of an issue, it's worth a
try. I've been standing about 1 foot away from the SLIMP3 while this is
happening and since the display flashes (kind of like a quick little blackout)
every time I hit a button, I didn't think the remote was an issue. I'll give
it a shot tonight.

Thanks for the response,

Dave

Every server release (even nightly builds) include the most recent firmware.
The slimp3 upgrade procedure it still the same one that is written in the manual
that you recieved. The MAIN.HEX file is located in the slimp3 folder. It is not
the same as the squeezebox update (hold brightness).

When I use the Info link (I) in the playlist a few times (1-3) the server
breaks down.

I run the latest nightly, win-xp and winamp

can you look in the log and see if it says anything about the crash? Does this
happen with any other skins.

The other skins doesen't have the info-link in the playlist, but when I
click on a song to get info it breaks the server after 1-5 times. I used the
Standard skin.

Where is the log-file located ? I can't find log.txt anywhere on the disk.
Is there some debug-switsh I have to enable ?

Peter

the crash might leave a sign in the event viewer. You can also run slimserver
from the command line and set your own logfile:

c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe --logfile c:\log.txt

I have tried this out myself with the cvs version running on linux and I can
view over 20 song info's without trouble, so I'm curious to know what you can
find from this to highlight the error.

From the eventlog (Error):

Wide character in syswrite at /PerlApp/Slim/Web/HTTP.pm line 897.

Do you want more info ?

the only info I can find on this kind of error suggests some problem with UTF-8
encoding. Is this crash repeatable with certain songs? If you select info for
a song that cuase the crash, instead of 1-5 at random, does it crash on the same
song every time?
