Hi there!

I got the wireless Squeezebox two weeks ago.
I'm using a Mac G4 OSX (latest version).
Having my music on a 500GB Lacie disk (Firewire 800).
Running the whole circus through a DLink DI-624
(802.11g/2.46Hz/108Mbps) Wireless Router.
The distance beetween the SB and DLink is about one floor or 4 meters
in air-distance. The signal on my SB stays around 60%!!

Trust me, I have all the latest updates on Slimserver and Firmware, but
the damn s... does not work. I plays for one to three minutes and it
drops out for at least 20 minutes. ALL THE TIME!!! This drives me
crazy.

The soundquality seems to be ok but there is no way I will enjoy
listening to it with these dropouts.

I only wanted to stream my music without a wire from my Mac/iTunes and
into my stereo. Is that what SB was intended to do?
Am I missing something and is there somebody out there who has succeded
with it?

I have to switch to my iBook laptop, who does the same job without any
hickups.

Still hoping :)

Erik,

Just for clarification, are you using the 5.1.5 version of the
SlimServer software or the pre-release version (marked at 5.1.6)
available here:

http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest

Also, does it really drop out for 20 minutes? When it does, what does
the display say?

Erik,

That sounds like a failure in your wireless network, not on your server
or player.

We had a Netgear router that would spontaneously reboot occasionally
and have the same behavior.

What's going on on the Squeezebox display during those 20 seconds?

The display freezes or it goes into black.
Sometimes the message "Problem! Can't find the Slimserver...." turns up.

My DLink DI 624 wireless router is working perfect with everything else
on my LAN. I have two Macs (one wireless iBook) and three PC's (two of
them wireless) connected.

I have shut down everything else for testing only SB, but no
improvements.

How do I measuere CPU/RAM loads/buffer on a Mac or changing frequency
on my router?
I have 1,25 GB RAM on my Mac (with iTunes and Slimserver).

Hi Erik,

You can use the Activity Monitor application to see the CPU usage.
Look for an entry called "perl". When the dropout happens look and
see if there's a change in the CPU percentage.

Another possibility is that since you have three computers on the
wireless LAN in addition to the Squeezebox, there could be some
contention for the network. Is it possible that one of the computers
is using a substantial amount of wireless bandwidth? Is there a
microwave nearby that could be interfering? A cordless phone?

Finally, have you tried changing the wireless channel that your access
point is using for the network? It may be that there is interference
on the channel that you are using.

Let us know what you find,

dean
