Hello

I recently changed my pc case to an Antec Aria one to build a nice silent
wireless server used for mp3 and video streaming in my small apartment. The
only software changed from my previous computer setup is a Windows
reinstall (no reformat), a big Windows Update update (heh), and iTunes
installation since I bought an iPod. Disks, partitions, network setup are
the same, but RAM went from 768 to 512M.

I was using the 5.1.5 slimserver version fine, but when I started it, it
just went scanning forever, getting 100% cpu usage (slim.exe) after
scanning exactly 345 albums (number shown in the squeezebox, since
slimserver keeps saying it's still scanning). Even worse, if on the device
I jump to the "Navigate music folder" choice, 345 instantly becomes 347
albums. So I tried to revert back to 5.1.4, using both uninstall and
deletion of c:\program files\slimserver folder - why uninstall doesn't
delete this folder, or at least doesn't give you the choice to delete it,
is still a mistery to me - and started it up again. The 5.1.4 scanned fine
(I have 571 albums on two partitions, D: being only mp3 folders, with a
shortcut called on_f which maps to F:\MP3 folder containing mp3 folders, I
don't have any looping shortcuts), however when I stop then start the
server again, ALL library indexing is gone :(

I then chose to try a nightly build, 2004-06-17 one, which had the same
scanning problem as 5.1.5, and also had to update my Squeezebox firmware,
which went fine (I did press brightness and update was successfull). It
seems than each slimserver version that starts in 15-20 seconds instead of
the usual 3-4 seconds has a problem regarding indexing, but I don't know
more, the Debug window doesn't show anything interesting, I tried to see
what that 345th album was on my drives, but didn't found anything
suspicious, and by the way I had the *same* collection on my previous
computer. I also noticed a random bug (5.1.4 to 5.1.6 builds) about music
library and playlist folders not being mapped to those chosen during the
install process, or even not mapped to the slimserver File menu ones, a
manual setting in web interface fixes the problem.

Is there any working build not affected by the 100% cpu usage or indexing
reset ?

Thanks for any support :-o

Is that all? :)

This isn't a bug that I'm aware of. Since you installed iTunes,
SlimServer may be scanning your iTunes music library as well as your
music folder (as it did before.) Check your server settings and if
there's an iTunes option, make sure it's turned off.

Also, it may be that there's a problem with the cache of music
information. Try visiting Server Settings -> Additional Server
Settings -> Performance and click on Wipe Cache.

Let us know if either of these things fix your issue.
