View Full Version : Choosing ShoutCast on Squeezebox causes connection loss

Below is what I have done so far in an attempt to get the SHOUTCast working
from the SqueezeBox (sorry about the length of the message).

I opened up the log file at: http://localhost:9000/log.txt and it contained
the following:

2004-06-17 21:27:00.8757 Your MP3 directory needs to be configured. Please
open your web browser,
2004-06-17 21:27:00.8758 go to the following URL, and click on the "Server
Settings" link.

2004-06-17 21:27:00.8758 The URL to access the SlimServer is now:
http://3grand:9000/

So, I went to http://3grand:9000/ and noticed both my music and play list
directories were blank. I filled both in with “E:\my music” (without the
quotes). The message towards the top of the page said it had set my
directories.

I use the remote and select a MP3 song (from my hard drive’s music library)
and press play and the song starts up. I navigate the menus on the
SqueezeBox using the remote and the following is displayed:

Squeezebox Home
SHOUTcast Internet Radio
(Right arrow)

Connecting to SHOUTcast web site …

(The song continues to play for about 10 or so seconds and then…)

Problem: Lost contact with SlimServer. Check that the software is running.

The display goes black and the SlimServer application appears to be
unresponsive (e.g. I click on Server Settings and nothing happens and it
displays “Opening page
http://localhost:9000/setup.html?page=server&player=...” in the status bar)

I close the SlimServer via a right click from the task bar and it asks if I
would also like to “stop the server”. I hit “Yes”. Then I restart the
SlimServer Application and after a bit it is back up and running and the
SqueezeBox comes back too.

Next I tried Peter’s suggestion of connecting to Shoutcast from my browser
and then making a play list file from a working URL. I did that and I can
select a Shoutcast saved play list from the SqueezeBox now (Thanks Peter!)
and it plays just fine. But, it still loses the connection when I select
“SHOUTCast Internet Radio” for some reason (as described above).

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help,

Steve

PS: I don’t know how to reply so that my responses are grouped with the
others in this discussion thread. How should I be replying to make this
happen?

Hi Steve,

You didn't mention which version of SlimServer you were using. The
latest pre-release version is the most stable:

http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest

If you upgrade and it's still happening, it sounds like you might have
a firewall blocking SlimServer from connecting to the Shoutcast site.
Is that possible?
