Yes, however a Bluetooth implementation would require Bluetooth access at
each SB location. The range on Bluetooth is similar to the range on a good
iR remote, so other than the omnidirectional aspect, I think it would be
easier to just use infared. Furthermore, with 5 boxes, I would have 5 IR
points to use whereas with Bluetooth I would only be able to control things
when I was within range of a Bluetooth access point (not necessarily in the
same rooms as the SB's).

Last, I'd like a PDA-phone with the palm OS if possible. I'm considering
the wifi solution right now, but I am setting this up for a non-geek who
needs simplicity. iR just seems to be the simplest solution for a non-techy
to understand and use.

Bluetooth is probably a better solution:

Actually... from informal testing... bluetooth's range looks pretty good for
this. I can certainly maintain my bluetooth connection to the SlimServer
from anywhere in the house. Which is great for this kind of stuff. (take a
look - http://www.mrtickle.org/bemusedbridge.html)

Of course... I haven't taught BemusedBridge how to select between SB's yet,
so you're stuck talking to one of them explicitly. That's not a problem for
what I usually use it for (controlling the downstairs SB's - all sync'd,
while there's people around, and I'm in the garden, or whatever), but I'll
have to address it at some point. The problem is that I'm reluctant to start
hacking at the innards of the Bemused Client itself, and there's nowhere
that abvious to bodge in a 'select SB' menu.
