I have SB3, Duet (Receiver and Controller) and Boom.
The SB3 and Receiver are wired. Boom and (obviously) Controller are wireless.
I never have buffering/dropouts on the wired players.
The Boom which is in the kitchen and wireless sometimes has issues when the microwave oven is operating. Often it's just a "jerky" display and difficulty making changes, but sometimes it causes music dropouts.
All that said, I think the short answer to your question is "yes" - unless your using the controller as a player. If reasonable to do so, I would always recommend running your players wired as it eliminates most of the issues seen with this type of application. NOW, if the issue is caused by the server not being able to keep up, then going wired won't fix things.
