Hi All

Is there any way that when playing Fip radio, the track info of the current song can be displayed.

Please bear in mind that i am a fool and any solution needs to be in simple speak!

Cheers

I presume you mean FIP Radio, 105.1 FM, from Paris, France?

If so it looks like they do not stream Metadata (artist, song, etc...)

Hi Toby

Yes, it's FIP Radio, 105.1 FM,

So is that the only way you can get the info?

I saw a thread in the developer forums regading this from last year, they were talking about a plugin called radioplus, i think, but it was all far too technical for my brain.

However, they did mention Fip radio specifically, so perhaps there is hope??

The problem is the stream type which is WMA which does not handle metadata well, at least with SB players. Why I dunno, but it is a common complaint.

I should rephrase my initial response in that FIP may well be providing metadata, but it's a WMA stream so that's why you are not seeing it.

If you can find alternate sources for the stream (like WinAmp, ShoutCast, etc...) you could cut & paste that URL into SC and maybe that stream format may contain metadata the SB can understand, like MP3. You could even try emailing the station and asking if they provide a direct stream URL, preferably in MP3.

Toby

Thanks for your help on this

I have posted the following url in sc: http://www.tv-radio.com/station/fip_mp3/fip_mp3-128k.m3u

It works fine, but still no info, is there anything else i need to do to get this to work.

There seem to be plenty of other url's of differing types about for this station.

Cheers

Email the station asking for a URL stream that includes Metadata (if it exists at all).

There is a potential way to do this.
The FIP web page includes info about what is currently playing
http://sites.radiofrance.fr/chaines/fip/endirect/
This page could be parsed by SqeezeCenter and the data then used to updat ethe song info on the Squeezebox.
It is a fiddly and error prone thing to do (e.g. if broadcaster changes web page format) - but the basic support mechanism for doing this was included a while ago.

Having a library of page parsers that could be called with some "simple" parameters and then stored in the wiki for SqueezeCenter to access when the station matches (rather than having to downloads lots of different add-ins) would be better I think.

Paul

Thanks very much for the advice mate.

However, you have made the mistake of assuming i have even half a brain ;-)

Could you explain how to do this (idiot proof)

Cheers

Try this URL: http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s15200&partnerId=16

If that still doesn't get you MetaData, then contact RadioTime and tell them: http://radiotime.com/contact-us.aspx

They can fix the issue or have the Radio station fix the issue.

Regarding the plug-in mechanism ....
Michael Herger wrote one to parse teh web site of DRS
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54996
and that was used as the basis for another one to parse Radio Zürisee
http://sergio.trentini.ch/fileadmin/downloads/zuerisee_plugin.txt

As you will see - it does require coding - but since the underlying mechaism has been done then ... using "View Source" to look at the broadcaster's site and then work out the correct text strings to look for is the next step.

Anyone fancy writing a more generic plug-in - that would take a list of URL and regex expressions - to that it would be easier to make new ones?

Why don't you use the Versaradio plugin which is a generic plugin but has support for FIP already developed. Don't know how up to date it is.

Thanks for that - I didn't realise that it existed.
Looks like it is doing what I had suggested to Andy many months ago but simply didn't have the skills (or time to acquire them).

Ah - having read through more of the thread ... I did know about it ...
I'll have to make some time to download and play - maybe I can add something to make it easier to add new stations without having to write new Perl.

The RadioTime feed is WMA and does not contain (or does not properly display) metadata via SC or SB player.

Hi,

After a long time without working on this plugin, I'm currently doing some cleanup in the package and adding a repository xml for auto install. If you're still interested, I'll post a message there when the new package is ready.

Reviving this old thread because after all of the years that passed, the itch had to be scratched and I had some time ...
So - before I share the link to my new plugin for FIP is there someone else who would like to try it out so that I can have a bit more confidence that it works in environments other than mine?

Hello Paul,
I would be very much interested in testing your FIP plugin. I am running Logitech Media Server on a Synology NAS.

On my side, I have updated VERSARADIO Plugin to display FIP Radio information and it works quite well (song information + cover art), fetching JSON data from FIP web site. I restart the plugin once a day as it seems to hang some time.
I never dared to share, as I am not a developer and know nothing about Open Source rules. This is the almost 10 years old plugin from V.Robin that I modified.
We'll see if this post get some attention and hopefully come with a working FIP Radio plugin for everyone to use.

Regards,
Sylvain

Hello Sylvain,
I wrote that a while ago and since then my plugin has been released and you should find it in the list of available plugins in your LMS - if you have ticked the box to enable 3rd-party plugin.
Look for Radio France in the list - because I extended it to include other stations from the group.
