Thanks Jason, that’s the connection I’ve been missing. I’d rather use the coax, but at least this will be a reasonable fallback option.

(I’ve had both expensive optical and coax interconnects on the digital feed, and found the coax a better sound. The two audio shops I frequent have backed this up. Beats me, from a computer background ones are ones and zeroes are zeroes, plus optical should get less interference!)

Yeah, I must not have phrased that one properly. I was only considering an external DAC if the Yammy couldn’t take SPDIF.

Thank you also John, Michel, Pat, and Paul for your helpful replies.

Cheers

Tom,

These opinions you are getting are dead on. Digital coax is preferable in
high end audio and you will not hear a great difference if you just buy a
DAC just so you can use a digital coax. I think what others are tying to
tell you is, if you are going to start spending money on your system and
want high end audio, start by replacing the receiver with separates or at
least a quality integrated. Also, what kind of speakers do you use? And, are
you currently using the receiver for mult-channel home theater? If so, then
the combining of ht and quality 2 channel can present a challenge.

Lloyd
