View Full Version : Raw IR interpretation

Hi All,
I use my slimp3 player in my bedroom to control my lights via a couple of
changes to the IRMap and Homeseer - X10. Basically, when the player if OFF,
I press 1 for 10% lights, 8 for 80% lights, 0 for light off. This works
great, but requires turning the player off.

I read somewhere that the Squeezebox (that I have in my living room) will
route all remote commands through irrespective of whether it recognises
them or not. I see that this is correct in the IR log.

So what I want to do is replace the IR-X10 device I have in my living room
with my Squeezebox. I have a remote for a tape deck I don't own and have
learned 10 of the commands from it into my Pronto remote control. I see the
commands HEX values in the log so know they are being sent through, this
happens whether the player is switched on or off, which is fantastic.

What do I do now? I suppose I must add some entries to the IRMap, but am
not sure what. I was hoping to use XPLHal, which is how I do my bedroom
lights, but am not sure how to reference the new commands, do I just create
entries in the IRMap for Lights1=0ffe0343 type thing, then tell XPLHal when
Lights1 do Homeseer this command..?

Also, is it possible to update the firmware of the SliMP3 to do this IR
forwarding too?

Thanks
John

P.S. latest nightly on XP

I haven't completely tried this out yet (I don't even own a Squeezebox
yet!) but hvae had it working with softsqueeze.

Enable XPL in the server settings in the web interface (infrared
processing set to both).

Load up XPLHAL (I tried on the somputer with slimserver installed). Open
XPL monitor and see if you can see the XPL messages that slimserver
generates each time you press a remote button on your 'spare' remote.

You should then be able to use the 'determinator' (is that what it is
called in xplhal) so that certain XPL messages from slimserver set
xplhal to do certain X10 things.

Let me know how well it all works - this is what I plan to do once I get
my squeezebox.

My experience is at a bit of a tangent. I personally don't use xPL, I'm from
the other camp, xAP.

There is a xAP homeseer plugin currently in beta test which may make this a
bit easier for you. Devices are autodetected, so all you'd have to do is
setup an event for the xap IR event device.
It should do this with any slim devices remote command, other IR codes may
be passed through, it's a suck it and see situation.
I've not tried this for myself yet, but I'm hoping to get around to it this
weekend.

You'd have to install a few more xAP components. The xap slimserver
connector and a xap hub.

More information at
http://www.xapautomation.org/ (a bit bare)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xap_automation/?yguid=154913341 (best place
to ask really)

With the xAP slimserver connector installed it's a trivial task to get
callerID or email alerts directed to the slim displays. Again, you have
install another couple of xAP components.

One of the xPL lads will be along soon enough to tell you exactly how to do
this with xPLHal. Both xAP and xPL were designed to do this sort of thing,
just a bit differently from each other (xPL is a branch of xAP I think?).

How did you get on with this in the end? I can confirm that the xap homeseer
plugin works very well and I've started adding additional remote control
codes to the slimdevices.ir and default.map file.
