Sounds familiar, plenty of options.

They will reproduce exactly what they are fed. There are quite a few folks on the list who have external DACs that have identified it takes about 3-5 seconds to lock onto the perfect sampling rate (I think that's what it was).

Don't use something proprietary like Apple's lossless encoder. Go with something like flac or ogg vorbis.

Good. The Squeezebox supports both, so you can pick.

For 99.999% of the time, it will be identical. The other .001% will be some flaky problems that are either quickly addressed or noted in bugtraq. Slimdevices folks will work on them quickly if they are a big deal.

Yes. If it's got optical inputs, the fiber will most likely be compatible as will the coax.

Your welcome!

Simon,

Can I just enquire how much your PT DAC was?

I wish I had heard about this earlier! I just spent 3,000 on a new CD player.

What software do you use for the lossless flac?

If you want you can email off list. I am extremely interested in learning
more about this method.

Thanks,

Ho Yin
