the wireless squeezebox on www.dabs.com is only 190, the same unit from
slim devices is 154 (as of today using www.xe.com/ucc as the converter).
only 40 difference and you won't get stung for import duty, vat, and
delivery.

you should be able to pick up a universal power supply from the likes of
Maplin, RS or CPC with the right connector and voltage output if you do
import it.

Subject: [slim] A few questions, powersupply/shipping

Hi,
I've one or two questions..
- If I purchase the Squeezebox and get it shipped to the states , does it
come with a 110v power supply or a 110/220v changeable supply ? The reason
I'm asking is that $80 shipping to Ireland is crazy ! Why can't you post US
mail or charge a reasonable price ? The Squeezebox is twice the price from
some rip off crowd at 400 Euro. In the UK it's 200 sterling, still about
twice the price.

- If I purchase the US version and it only has a 110v power supply can I
purchase the UK power supply ($15) and simply swap them ?

- I can't wait to purchase my squeezebox someday soon !Thanks for the great
product.

Or, you can just tell Slim Devices that it's coming overseas and they'll give you the relevant PSU. :-)

That's right. When you place an order, just note in the comments field
that you want a specific power supply and our sales folks will send you
the one you need.

We don't recommend using third-party power supplies, especially the
multi-voltage ones. Squeezebox requires a REGULATED 5v power supply,
so the inexpensive universal supplies are inappropriate.

Been there done that.. got mine shipped from US to good old mBaile Atha
Cliath and it came with the correct 220v UK & Eire 3-pin!.. so they are
aware on the US side of things of what we need!.. they mention that in
the online shop.

It came via UPS in 3 days!, ..UPS in Tallaght rang me the day before the
delivery and informed me that I should expect to be paying 21% import
tax.. but they never charged me in the end.

I would have been a good European Union member and sourced one tax-free
from Germany, France etc but I wasn't able to locate a seller with a
comparable price to the US cost (even considering the risk of the extra
21% import tax on the US purchase).

The nearest equiv Irish price was a complete rip off from the
gadgetsonline.ie at a whopping 397.68..

For those of you in the US who think fuel prices are going up.. sit down
now.. that Irish price of 397.68 works out at USD$481.55 or
GBP265.41.. best part of $200 more on sale price alone.. you'd think it
was personally autographed by Sean Adams and gold-plated at the same
time!

Call me a a spend thrift!.. but there was no way I was forking out a
whole more for some robbing little spanner from Ireland.. even if it was
for such a cool device as the SB!
