Hello all,

We had a power outage here yesterday morning. I found our Squeezebox at
the "lost contact with Slimserver" message, but it wouldn't respond to
any keys on the remote.

I ultimately had to disconnect and reconnect the power to bring it back
up.

Don't know if the server side would impact this, but I was running CVS
as of 5/20 sometime.

I found this was the case as well recently, though simply touching the
power button on the remote was enough to get it going again. It
immediately went to the standby, clock display mode, and pressing power
again got it up and running as normal.

I'm running 5.1.1 and associated firmware.

Didn't seem like a huge deal to me since otherwise the PC is always on
(the real problem is how often we've been losing our power this spring --
getting a lot of thunder/lightning storms recently). Though I suppose if
we were powering the PC on and off all the time it'd be a bigger problem.

Mine wasn't responding to the power button on the remote.

I live near Boston, MA. In terms of power, we're kind of third world.
Yay, NSTAR.

I'm not sure what happened to your setup, did the server reboot or did
just the player lose power.

In the mean time, you can force a restart of the Squeezebox by pressing
and holding the POWER button for 5 seconds.

That's what is supposed to work, but I find it does not always do so.

For instance, on waking my computer from sleep this morning, I found
the Squeezebox showing no display (which commonly happens for me).
Pressing and holding Power just brought up the message "lost contact
with Slimserver". usually when that happens, the display goes blank
after a few seconds and holding Power down again does restart. But
today the "lost contact with Slimserver" has remained for several
minutes, and holding down Power does nothing.

The only certain way of regaining a connection, as I've found a few
times, is to disconnect from the power supply and reconnect.

But there's a slight oddity there too. When I do that it says, after
a few seconds, "connecting to wireless network", counts down from 20
to 10, decides it can't make a connection, tries again and then
connects fine (I've experienced this often). I'm a touch surprised
that it gives up after counting down to 10, rather than going to 0
before giving up.

I suspect the main reason the Squeezebox won't wake up when the
computer does is some obscure interaction with my Airport Extreme
Base Stations. But the difficulty in restarting it does seem a
Squeezebox issue.
